In daz. What are the main differences between V4 and V7? obviously I know V7 will be better but try and explain it as basic as possible as to how please. Thankyou.

Personally, I still prefer V4.
Victoria 4 uses the old parametric rigging system, where the amount that vertices move when a joint bends depends on their position relative to angled lines and, in many cases, a pair of spheres. Genesis 3 Female uses weight-mapping where the amount that vertices bend is controlled by numbers assigned to them, allowing much more precise control - especially in areas like the hip and shoulders where multiple joints meet. Genesis 3 Female has numerous morphs triggered by the joint bends to further enhance the bends, and uses a calculation system that makes more natural bends to start with; Victoria 4 uses a mixture of morphs and DForms to adjust the mesh when posed, and doesn't have the better calculation system.
Victoria 4 uses morphs for expression, Genesis 3 Female uses facial bones. This makes it much easier to customise an expression. Genesis 3 Female also has a more articulate mouth.
Genesis 3 Female has bones for the metacarpals in the hand, and for the toes and heel on the feet, allowing more realistic posing than V4 which had only morphs for this.
Victoria 4 has a higher resolution mesh than Genesis 3 female, roughly equiovalent to one level of sub-division. Genesis 3 Female is designed to use sub-division to smooth the mesh - in general this allows better posing, and doesn't have the engative impact on morphing that you might expect as the SubD can handle the smoothing of morphs that in V4 needs to be done with the existing vertices (it does place slight restrictions on where a morph can work, though some of the Daz and PA morphs use HD morphing to apply a change to the divided mesh, allowing them to be even more detailed than the V4 morphs).
Genesis 3 Female and Victoria 4 use a different layout of their material zones, and as a result do not share textures.
Victoria 7 is a shape, uv set, and textures for Genesis 3 Female.
Same here I prefer V4.
Unless you want to get technical I would say that the main differences to a layman like me are:
I prefer V7 from a G3 pov; looking at the two characters, I prefer V4.
Isn't it something, V4 is still going strong.
I do like the realism of V7 and the other G3 figures. :-)
I think V4 is still so popular because the bending issues can be easily resolved with morphing products like Perfect Victoria 4 or Beautiful Bends. And some don't like the rubber-like joints of the genesis figures. Although, V7 is the best-looking genesis figure so far, I think. Still not enough to make me switch, though, lol.
V4 is a classic. And I understand why people still use her, with all her add ons and morphs.
Ok thankyou people I have more than enough info here.
One thing I love about Iray is that it can breathe a lot of life into old content.
Like, this is Victoria 4.2 with Iray skin settings: http://willbear.deviantart.com/art/Victoria-4-Iray-555463203 http://willbear.deviantart.com/art/Vic42-Closeup-557247060
And I could probably improve on that further.
Now, I vastly prefer Genesis and Genesis 2, but for someone with lots of V4 content... there's a lot of life in that gal still!
I second that, Will. Your sentence about IRay. And V4 looks very nice in that image!
Some of us love an excuse to talk. :-) As I point the finger at myself.
I still use V4, genesis 1 and genesis 2, but I really like GF3. Most of my renders are pinup style, so body details are important and GF3 just looks really good and bends great without all the fixes and whatnot. I find myself creating the same pose and same scene at times so I can compare figures and GF3 keeps winning for me in each scenario. Luckily there is nothing saying I have to use a certain figure other than what works best and looks best for my render. I render in Luxrender and octane, so figures don't matter as I have to adjust all shaders to fit the renderer anyhow.
I hear ya, I have gigs of V4 content and luckily much of it works well with the genesis figures. The one things that keeps me using V4 more than anything is heels, LOL. I have a big collection of V4 heels and as most know these don't transfer well.
V4 has been around a long time. Pick any category of clothing. V4 probably has as many options in that category as all three Genesis versions combined.
There are 2 or 3 V4 Weight Mapped (Poser only) conversions available.
if V4 was your first love
can you forget that ?
One big difference between v4 and v7 is that v7 characters are likely to be made with all the technological advances that came around after the creation of v4. Things like HD morphs and Iray material settings. It is doubtful that product makers would go back to v4 develop characters with those (and other) more advanced tools.
And yet to some people many of the V4 characters look much better than the newer V7 ones - bends and poses not withstanding . So those advances don't necessarily always translate to better looking characters.
* I'm not talking about your characters here though Rawn.
Some people like rembrant, some people like picasso, which is better?
That is just personal preference. I was just speaking about the the facts of the technological improvements inherent in the new characters comeing to market.
Who is V4? seriousley??? G3F rules. Strike a pose with V4 and do the same pose with V7 and use your eyes. V4 meh, V7 pretty acceptable. Simple as that.
I mostly use V4, the bulk of my runtimes support this character.
The real problem with V7 is that she is not easily backward compatible so one has to rebuy alot of stuff that you already have for older figures. She also doesn't work with Poser (not even with DSON) so she and her content are all trapped in DAZ Studio. Also V7 products may or may not move to DRM in the near future. As for V4 - one forgets that she is a DAZ figure so it is weird that she is almost totally ignored as far as additional content here at Daz3d even though new stuff comes out at other sites.
Actually is makes sense that she is all but ignored here at DAZ because DAZ controls what is in the store and they want to promote the latest and newest product in their store, just like with any other product line. As for backwards compatibility, you can autofit any V4 item to her just like with genesis 1 and 2 with character textures being the only thing not being compatible. I still buy V4 clothing with the sole purpose of using it on genesis 1, 2, and 3. I used to still buy the occasional V4 character if the skin stood out to me, but now I just buy GF3 characters
With GF3 being free, I decided to try her out and after some use and comparisons, decided she was pretty great. for anyone on the fence, make up your own mind, or stick with V4, or G1, or G2, it's your choice..
V7 / G3 is OK except for the hip, specifically the upper-inner-thigh / pubic interaction zone.
V4 (and certainly G1, G2 and I think even V3) could be used as a base for 3D versions of these women:

G3 would struggle. Also with giving birth. Too narrow at the pubis.
Technicalities aside, Posette had a better figure than Victoria 1 & 2. Technicalities aside, V4, V5 (G1) and V6 (G2) have better figures than V7 (G3).
Those gals stay in shape with juicing and yoga. G3 just smokes and snorts charlie.
(Yes, my initial enthusiasm has worn off. Glad I was cautious.)
.
What I am personally noticing is that a majorty of Gn3F/V7 moprh's facial features look the same. I am wondering if the new facial bones make it harder to morph the face and head? If not, then why am I noticing this trend?
One thing that I haven't seen mentioned, The mesh density and the way morphs are loaded on all the genesises make them have a lighter memory footprint and load mutch faster. I could probably load all three genesises in less time than it would take to load 1 v4 and her main morphs.
"looks better" and "better looking characters" is peronal taste and not quatifiable "doesn't have armpit cracks that go above where the bone would be by default" or "you dont have to worry about 2 morphs being on the same (finite number of) channels and not working properly" along with what I mentioned above are pretty quantifiable advantages to the newer generations.
If you're really concerned with backwards compatibility I would say use Genesis2 still can use all your v4 skins all the "better looking" character morphs can be transferred
Personally I think about 90% of v4 characters are insistingushable and I find V4 the fugliest of the daz ladies, and find it less the case with the newer generations. Bones have no effect on creating morphs, but I have found they do make it easier to make a custom character smile without looking like the joker.
Bones...yeah, it doesn't make any difference if there's only one or one hundred of them. But mesh density and layout will.
Also, I'm finding that I don't want to mess too much with the basic head shape for fear of royally mucking up the eyes (so much easier to do on G3F).
I have no idea where you got that number. Look at all the differences offered even by a single PA, such as Godin. The level of facial differences offered by the same PA is so diverse you probably don't have to look too far between PAs to find something different. I have never used the base V4. I always go for a PA morph I like as well as for the newer Genesis figures. So it is irrelevant if one finds the base ugly or not.
I had the opposite reaction, I found G2F/V6 disturbingly anorexic, G3F/V7 just the usual skinniness we've had all along.
