Haunted by dreams of death and bloodshed, separated from her lover by deceit and treachery, forced to marry somebody else for political reasons, Lucia loses her mind.

She stabs her unloved new husband with his own sword on their wedding night and runs in her bloodstained nightgown to the place where she used to meet her lover in happier days.

Rejoicing in her illusion that she is going to her wedding with the man she loves, she collapses and dies insane.
