Joanta is the daughter of a scientist who specializes in cybernetics.

Years ago, while testing a machine her father developed that was supposed to create an all-powerful force field, Joanta was badly injured after something went wrong. When she recovered, however, she discovered newly formed powers.

Inevitably, she decided to put these powers to use and designed a super hero costume. Now she is ready to fight crime and bring balance to her city as the Dark Sentinel!
