Teaching Intro to 3D Art community class

Hi,

So, this winter I may be teaching an Intro to 3D Art class for my local park district and I was thinking about using Daz Studio as the application for this because of it's ease of use and it's definitely the app to introduce someone who is completely new to 3D art and working in 3D space.  What type of problems would I face or hurdles I need to overcome for this?  With it being a free software, are there any?

I will also talk to them about getting a free account with Daz and explaining the option of going PC if they wanted as well.

I guess I could use Blender or that low level version of Poser (Poser Debut, I believe) to do the same thing, but my first option was Daz Studio.

You may need to determine whether the EULA would allow your students to use the free DS and content that you downloaded from your account. Each student might have to sign up and download their own copy to be legal. I don't know. Maybe you should submit a help request and get clarification for a situation like this.

    you will have modesty issues.

some people are very uncomfortable with viewing nudity as you change outfits.  We may be a bit jaded by it, but I wanted to put that out there.

Will there be computers in a lab there or are people expected to bring their own laptops/tablets?  Do you know the hardware specs of the machines?  I would be thinking about if the machines can complete even draft renders in the time alloted for a course.

There are also accessibility issues to think about, DAZ Studio can't resize it's font for instance which may be difficult for some users depending on the hardware being used, and is very mouse driven.  Not all people are adapt at using a mouse so you might have some issues there as well depending on the experince level of the users.

4.9.2.70+ will rspect the DPI setting on Widnows systems, so for thsoe theer is a way to resize fonts (though it isn't offered as a complete solution, that is still being worked on).

Create preloaded scene with the characters Barbie style and wearing their knickers and no gens. I'm not sure if this is marketed as an art class people will be that freaked with figure drawing involving nude modeling and all.

I'd probabLy discuss it with admins since college courses these days frequently have students who are minors though. One reason I stopped taking classes at my local community college was the art classes were filled with kids from local high schools and it wasn't relaxing.

It's not a community college.  Just a class at the local part district.  I thought about the nude situation and I think I have an answer to that.  If the EULA is complicated, like I said, I can always have each student get an account and download the software themselves.

Most of these machines run Windows 7 to Windows 10.

Thanks for the feedback, though.  This should get me started. :)

I would suggest painting underwear directly on the skin, V4 style. You won't have any collision problems, and nobody will be able to delete them.
