Active Pose Control - Where have you been all my life?

in The Commons
Ha! I just found out about the Active Pose Control. I actually preffer the pose tab slider for the actual posing but the one thing I absolutely love about the Active Pose Control is that when you pin a bone it actually stays put unlike the pining on the Universal tool which does absolutely nothing useful. I was using Hollywood Boulevard as my style so I didn't even know the tool existed because it's not available in that style. Man does this ever speed up posing when you're not throwing everything out of alignment everytime you move another limb.

Yeah, I use Hollywood Blvd and really wish it was an option to use it there. Pretty dumb that you can't, imo.
I really liked Hollywood Blvd because it makes for a very uncluttered interface. One tab takes care of my content needs and another one for posing and animating. I don't know why you can only access some tools in some interfaces. You'd think there would be a way to add tools to the interface. It's almost like getting used to a new program using City Limits (with Highway style).
I've been playing with poses tonight and whipping out poses likety split because of the pinning function of the active pose control. I don't know why the universal tool's pinning can't function the same way.
Yeah, I totally agree. What I have to do when creating or working with poses is switch layouts ...which I hate having to do just for that. But that pose tool is so great - why they've locked it out of my favorite layout/workspace is beyond me.
Getting used to City Limits. Man, I can't believe how much better the pinning is in Active Pose. I wonder what other tools I missed out on all these years using Hollywood.
Now we're at it - there is a parameter pane where you can set the sensitivity of the parameters and other stuff, I used it not long ago but I just can't find it anymore. Can anyone give me a clue? And no I haven't changed workspace, still using City Limits.
Isn't it just in the Tool Settings tab?
City Limits is actually starting to grow on me now.
Window>Workspace>Customise, find the tool on the left (in Viewport Tools), find the toolbar you want it in under the Tool Bars tab on the right, and drag it across. You can also use the keybaord shortcut Alt-shift-P(Win)/Opt-Shift-P(Mac) to make it the active tool.
I started using City Limits soon after I had DS mostly figured out. I like the look better and it helped me learn all of the different functions better. I think I used the default Hollywood for about six months before I switched and I never regretted making that switch.. I love ActivePose, by the way, and it's an important part of my workflow when posing. However, I didn't know about the Tool Settings tab until a couple of weeks ago and that has made a world of difference. I don't understand how toggling pins in one place is so much better than toggling them in a different place. You would think they would work the same, but they don't. Toggling the pins through the Tool Settings tab works SO MUCH BETTER!!!!
Ah, yes, just had to select "Scene Navigator" in the drop down box. Thanks!
This sounds like a mini-tutorial in the making. Can I ask what are y'all talking about? (other than I've found the so-called pinning w the universal tool to be worse than useless).
What is this dark magic of which you rave?

It doesn't seam to work. At least not in Hollywood Blvd (I'm using the latest Daz Studio version). I followed your instructions, and it allows you to put the tool icon on your tool bar but when you select it, it doesn't bring up the round/circle tool that is supposed to show up on your view port in the upper left.
This is the pose tool in other layouts:
Trying to add the tool to Hollywood Blvd gives you the tool icon but the actual tool (the one that's supposed to be in the upper left) doesn't show up:
Ah, I didn't get the point. Viewport option menu (the lined button in the top-right corner of the viewport)>Show Pose Tool.
Oh man does this make animating so much easier.
Ahhhhh Thank you!! I finally get the Active Pose Tool in Hollywood Blvd! lol :D
Wow, they make you jump through some hoops to get there! lol Thanks for the help, Richard! :)
Yeah, that tutorial was an eye opener. It exposed me to some aspects of the software I had no clue about. I've really enjoyed the new tuts immensely; they've been very useful.
Is the Active Pose Tool available in DAZ Studio 4.8?
Yes, it's been around for years.
This is exciting! Right under my nose all this time.
I'd seen that tool, but didn't know its idea of pinning actually pinned things.
Thanks for the links/pointers. Time to go "click on things"!

I've noticed a problem since switching to City Limits. In Hollywood Blvd. whenever I pulled open a tab the viewport would adjust to compensate. So if Timeline was up the vertical would shrink so I'd still see the full screen in the viewport. With City Limits whenever I open a tab like Smart Content (on the right) or Timeline or Animate (on the bottom) the viewport doesn't adjust to the smaller realestate and the opened tab covers up that portion of the viewport. This makes it very difficult for animating when I can't see the whole viewport. Is there a setting I'm missing that will set the viewport to auto compensate?
Remove the Shader Builder/Shader Mixer panes from the center dock.
Woohoo! Thanks! That did the trick.

Man! I am LOVING animating in Daz Studio now. Not saying the software can't use a lot of improving to make it more animation friendly but it's amazing what a huge difference it make when you're creating aniblocks and you can actually keep the bones you want to stay put, put! It's like a whole new program.
I am so happy at this thread. I'd given up completely on pinning body parts.
hahah I love the bunny-girl's foot twitch at the end.
That is the CUTEST little vid there Ghastly. OMG! I love the little twitching foot at the end! lmao
It was so much fun to make too. These new Daz Studio tutorials are long overdue. I hope they do some that give a more indepth look into keymate and graphmate and show what sort of things they can be used for. The new Animate ones were very useful. Finally figured out the sublayers thing.
That's some really cool looking powerpuff-ish girls.
Yep. Agree abt the 2016 videos. What a breath of fresh air!
This is a slightly edited version of my City Limits, the animation oriented layout.
GoFigure animation toolset are highlighted in red/ green/ blue arrows. Ideally I wanted them in the uppest row; but there's an issue with Animate2 aniblocks drop down (more like drop UP!!)
Red brackets = Active Tool stuff. Its Tool Settings options are just so helpful. Didn't know these existed for years until return to DS 2 months ago. (didn't know Universal Manipulator has a Tool Settings either - until recently too!)
Since I know I will use Active Tool pinning a lot, I added two custom action with custom icons for 2 Active Tool functions, on the top menu. Found them in F3, oddly filed under PowerPose.
They are also hotkeyed. (Since I added custom icons to most stuff, a lot of hotkeys become available again! yeepeeeee)
I
Daz Studio custom interface.
Wait, what?
