OT (sort of) - Tampermonkey woes...

I'm trying to get Tamprtmonkey to work in Firefox so I can get crazy good deals on Daz swag, and am having a heck of a time getting it to work. I'm hoping for some pointers.
Firefox is all updated and happy. I install the AddOn, and, for a brief flash the icon for Tampermonkey is there, then it disappears. The only reason I know it's still on the addon bar is because there's an empty space. I put my mouse over the space and a small, dashed-lined horizontal rectangle highlights that's Tampermonkey, and when I click on it, a white box pops up with a swirly thing in the top, left corner. It swirls for a while then an error comes up that says it couldn't start and I should close Chrom (I'm using Firefox!) and asks if I want to go to the forums. If I click 'Yes', 'No', Cancel', 'Get me some pizza!" all it does is close th ebox and I'm back to Firefox.
I've completely removed Firefox from my system (and I mean completely, removing left over registry entries, folders etc), and all addons, then reinstalled all fresh and happy and tried Tampermonkey again, but no success.
I haven't tried it in IE or Chrome as I like to stick to one browser (even though Firefox is becoming a serious pig).
I'm figuring that, since it's been mentioned in the forum here alreay, I'd ask here if anyone has some pointers. Maybe someone has had a similar issue and could offer some suggestions.
Much appreciated!

I have not had this issue with Tamper Monkey but have had it with other FF add-ons - On one occasion it was my security quarantining files it needed to run so I just needed to allow them.
On the other occasion, the add-on just did not like another add-on I had enabled at the same time - I found this by disabling all add-ons then re-enabling one at a time until I found the one causing a problem so you could try that & see if you can find anything
Other than that I have no idea as it installed & ran straight away for me
I've tried that. Didn't seem to make a difference. I tried disabling them all, then adding one at a time, as well as installing it first after I did the reinstall of FF, but it still didn't work. Very odd. I'd love to get this running...
With Firefox 47.0.1, on win 8.1, Tampermonkey version 4.2.5291 is working fine here. Although I usually use Chrome, but I do have it installed in Firefox for testing.
Are you using the most up-to-date versions of everything? (Okay, maybe not Windows... :))
Yes. Latest FF, latest Tampermonkey (through the Get Add-Ons section of FF), updated Windows, etc. Well, FF v48.0.2. It looks like v49 just came out today. I'll update and try that.
(Hmm, I have FF v47, and it says it's up to date. Strange.)
Anyway, it may take you to the very same page in the end, but please try installing it following the links from the official site here: https://tampermonkey.net/
That should take you to the correct download page on the Mozilla Addons page.
I'll give that a try after work, but it sounds familiar... I think I tried that already, but once more won't hurt!
Actually, for the fun of it, I just tried it on my work machine (from the url you linked) and it installed, the icon shows, and it redirected me to https://tampermonkey.net/ after it installed. Same version of FF.
Is it normal for the icon to disappear then reappear as you switch between tabs? Right now, on this page, the icon is gone.
If you've just installed it, you may need to reload the tab. Normally the icon should stay visible on every page, even where there are no userscripts running.
Installed FF v49.0. Also disabled all my anti-badstuff programs and antivirus and tried to install it and no go. Still get this error when I click on the (invisible) icon:
I wonder if I should try installing it in FF Safe Mode.... worth a try...
It works on one machine, and not the other? Are they running the same operating system?
If there's no way to get it working, you can try this extension instead: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/greasemonkey/
It should do the same thing, allow you to install the userscripts, but I have not tested all of my scripts with this, so no guaranties... :)
Yes, both machines are running the same OS. I loaded it up in Chrome on my home machine and it works fine. I could just use that instead, but I have a real aversion to switching browsers for different purposes. It seems... weak on the part of the browser.
I'll check out greasemonkey after work. Thanks for the option.
Do you have a trunk monkey?? Everyone needs a trunkmonkey!!

Now I certainly want one...
So I've installed greasemonkey on my FF at home. I went through the list of scripts and installed just about every one of them (I didn't install any related to the Forums). Here are the ones that don't seem to work:
Wishlist Notification (this one hurts)
Sum Prices
Find Products That Are In Multiple Sales (not sure about this one)
Add Wishlist Icon to Category page
Mark Encrypted Items
Releaase Date for New Items
I know you said you can't guarantee they would work, I just thought I'd let you know what I found. At least I can sort by % which is huge! Also, if I need to update my wishlist, I can switch over to Chrome and do it, I suppose.
Thanks for trying these. I went ahead and gave them a try with greasemonkey. Here's what I found:
Sum Prices - this one works, this was actually the first I tried with greasemonkey to see if it works. You should have no issues with this.
Find Products That Are In Multiple Sales - we'll get back to this after the PA and PC+ sales. There are no multipla sales going on right now, so there's nothing to try this on.
Add Wishlist Icon to Category page - this is clearly broken in greasemonkey. only works with tampermonkey. This actually breaks everything else, so you should disable this in greasemonkey, until further notice.
Mark Encrypted Items - this should work, it showed both the productlist icon, and the checkout warning for me.
Release Date for New Items - doesn't seem to break anything else, but does not work in greasemonkey
Wishlist Notification - I left this to the end to give it a good test, and found that this one should work fine in greasemonkey, too. Both the manual update and the autoupdate in the background. It doesn't even ask for that extra permission that tampermonkey asks for.
Disable the ones that do not work (Add Wishlist Icon to Category page, Release Date for New Items) and see if you can get the others working without these.
For reference, this is my system I tried it on: Win 8.1, FF 48.0.2 (still not the latest version? ehh...), Greasemonkey 3.9
Update: FF finally updated to 49.0. I'm not trying everything again, but Wishlist notification works, and sum prices works, too.
As far as FireFox settings go... This is not my main browser, so I think I have everything on default factory settings.
Alright. For some reason, even though I installed it, Add Wishlist Icon doesn't even show in the list of asses scripts. Strange, but fine since you say it breaks everything else. haha
As for the rest, I disabled Release Date, but I'm still confused about the Wishlist one. I installed it originally on my computer at work and did the register thing with the email and the code. My thought was to get it working at home where I do most shopping, but it doesn't show up in the browser even though the script is installed. Can you run it on different machines? It's not showing up in Chrome on my home machine either in tampermonkey. I did set it to autoupdate on my work machine. Maybe I need to disable that option (somehow) on that machine?
Yes, you can run it on different machines. You need to make sure to enter the same email, passcode and percentage, but other than that, there should be no problem with running it on multiple computers.
You don't have to disable the autoupdate, but if you have it running on multiple machines, you may find that the newly added items get added, deleted, added a few times before they settle. This is because the wishlists stored on the two computers will be out of sync for the first few pageloads. You'll only notice this if these newly added items are triggering the notification, otherwise you won't see a thing of this, so this should not be a problem in most cases.

At home, do you mostly use Firefox and greasemonkey? If so, please make sure you have installed the wishlist update script. Then can you go to the wishlist page, open the greasemonkey dropdown menu, and give me a screenshot of it? (Just the dropdown part.) It should be something like this:
Alright. I'll try to get that done after work today.
I appreciate your help, even though you mentioned greasemonkey is not really the latest & greatest.
Ok, here's a screenshot of the top of my wishlist. No Update server box...
Hmm, I installed the same scripts that you have, and it runs fine. :(
The only difference I see, other than a couple of extra addons you have, is that gray ad-like square between the url and the daz menu. What is that? Did you just cover something up, or is that actually there on the page for you? :-o
Hah! Sorry... should have used a different colour. That was just me blocking out the bazillion bookmarks...
Oh, I thought there was something that put extra ads on the sites. Would have explained why it might not work for you. :)

Moving on to the next step of debugging... :) Could you please go to the wishlist page again, and press Shift+Ctrl+I, this brings up the Developer tools window. In there, click on "Console". This should list a couple of error messages. Most of them are normal, like the google errors on my screenshot. But it might give a clue to why the userscript is not running in your browser. What do you see there?
It should look something like this, either at the bottom of the screen, or in a separate window, depending on browser settings:
Alrighty. Will do that after work. Much appreciated!
Nothing going on in the console. Weird.
I'm out of ideas, and I don't want you to mess up your browser settings... :(
Anyone else having issues with installing Tampermonkey in Firefox? Maybe we can see what you have in common.
