Mst Lily G3

I just bought Mst Lily G3 because she's very cheap at the time of writing ($3.35), and on loading her up she calls for Karen and Eva morphs. I don't have either of these figures, and the need for them wasn't mentioned on the product page. It's no big deal to me - at that price there's still more than I enough I can do with Lily for her to represent value for money, and the missing morphs don't seem to make much difference to her anyway, but I thought I'd mention it for the benefit of anyone who encounters her when the sale is over and who doesn't own Karen and Eva.

  • Thanks for the heads up.  She looks like she should work with the base G3 anyway even if its not exactly the same.  She has some great make up options.

I'm really considering grabing her, as that price is awesome! Would you consider posting a quick render of her? I'd love to see how she looks without the Karen and Eva morphs (as I don't have those figures either).

    If you're too busy I'd understand. :)

Steam-driven machine here, but render is on it's way :)

  • I had that happen to me with Silver's character for Sunny it called for girl 7 which i didnt have and it wasn't listed on her page support told me it didnt need it but since i know some character are based in part off different models but will work without it but look slightly different than the promos, kind of hard to say if it does or doesn't without a reference of both side by side

She's a bit grainy here, but we'll be here all night otherwise :) She had hair and clothes on when you asked, so I just made them invisible to save a bit of time. This included a ring with a fit morph, which is probably responsible for the dent on the underside of her ring finger. I've swapped the piercing blue eyes for the more realistic brown ones and she's using one of her nail morphs, but otherwise she's pretty much default. I like her a lot, especially the wrinkles on her knuckles - I only ever really see those on older characters, despite the fact we've all got them from birth.

In addition, there's a really quick one so that you can see the shape of her body. The promos show her skin better than we've got the time for, but I like that a lot too, especially the slightly flushed look that she's got in her butt area that makes her look like she's been sitting on it - it makes her look more real, somehow. The make-ups are great too.

In short, I think she was well worth the beans :)

Thank you, Astracadia! :D I appreciate you posting her render! :)

Are her legs really that dark or it just the lighting?

It's just the lighting. She was set up for a portrait and I didn't want to interfere with the lighting I already had. She doesn't really look like a Siamese cat :)

hahah Cool! Thanks again, Astracadia. I think I'll probably get her then. :) I only have two G3F characters so I could really use more.

She seems to render pretty dark to me, at least with the shaders that are delivered with her. Below is her rendered using just the default HDR that comes with studio, no other adjustments made. She does render very fast though, this one took just 40 seconds (using my GTX 970).

Thanks, Havos. Her coloring does look a little ...hmmm, I'm not sure. Her belly area is kind of greyish while her legs are pinker/reder. It might just be the HDR though, maybe.

With default studio lighting, she's definitely darker than base G3F (who is decidedly bright anyway!). I'm more than happy with her though at just over $3 and for that money can find plenty to like about her :)

I am wondering if there is something strange about the shader also, when I look at the textures they look fine, her skin is a dark pink, not at all like what I rendered, and I have rendered plenty of other characters with the default HDR, and they looked fine.

My first impression is that there's something wrong with the SSS. It seems like it's black or something...

I replaced her shaders with those that came with Skyler, and IMHO, she looks a lot better. The skin textures are still those that came with Lily, I only changed the shader. The lighting is identical to my other render above

I don't know, but she definitely looks more coffee-coloured than she did in the promos. I'm not unhappy with that as it fills a gap in the G3F characters I've got, but I'd still like to know what's causing the difference. However, it's just gone 5.00am here and I'm dropping. I'll give it some more thought later - maybe someone else will have figured it out by then :)

Just to add that I meant she looks more coffee-coloured in my last render, not yours, Hovos - we were cross posting. Night all :)

In case you did not know, to replace the shaders with those for another just double click whilst holding the cntrl key, then select Ignore for the maps in the pop-up box, and all the original texture maps are retained, only the shaders are replaced.

If the characters looks like the promos then there's a good chance that it simply means that the preset was saved from a version of G3F where Karen and Eva were installed and so has references to those morphs even if it doesn't actually use them.

  • first seen her price must've gone up too she's now $9.57 someone must've noticed this thread and updated info cause it mentions in the details section it mentions karen and eva

Yes, Karen and Eva weren't mentioned previously. I double-checked before I started the thread. It's a shame you missed out, Diva, but maybe that just means that fate has something in mind for those dollars that you'll like more :)

Hey guys, I think I (accidentally) figured out why the skin texture is darker than expected.

This product must be one of the Iray products that came out before the latest 4.9 release where they fixed SSS and transluency. The immediate impact of that fix is that many skin textures are now darker than expected. That's why updated products -- such as Arabella 7 -- carry an Iray Legacy mat for older versions of Daz Studio.

I completely forgot about this issue until I was clicking around some old products and they came out super dark. The fix, strangely enough, is to alter the translucency color and SSS colors...

edit: Also... fixing the colors is a *lot* harder than it first appears, since products may depend on Thin Walls being turned off :(

Yeah, I'm sad I missed out on it, but you're probably right - I'm probably meant to save it for something I like more. :)

Ah that explains a lot actually. Seams like base G3F and V7 are both pretty dark and even a bit orangy (at least to me).

That explaination does make a lot of sense. I left it quite a while before I eventually pitched in with Genesis 3 and the issue had been fixed long before I did, so I don't have much (any!) experience of tackling it. I'll look into that one when I get a minute.

You can try my G3F shader if you want: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/1602961/#Comment_1602961 - it might give a starting off point in tweaking the settings to how you want them.

I'm not sure if it works or not as I've not gotten any feedback on it. I've never shared a shader before so I may have done it wrong, but on one has given any feedback on it, so I don't know. lol

If I didn't do it right and it doesn't work, please let me know. :)

Thanks, Diva. I have a render cooking at the moment which will probably take quite a while and I have family coming round in a bit too, but I will try your shader when I get a minute and let you know how it goes :)
