I found out I already owned Low Poly 1 as it was included in 81 blocks product I had bought from Rendo. Not the first time I have bought the same product twice...I think my record is 3 times for a product at 3 different stores.

However the curious thing is the old Low Poly 1 was a prop and it loads fine in DAZ Studio. The new Low Poly 1 I just bought at DAZ is a Cr2 and although it does load none of the materials get loaded. I checked both in Poser and the original shader was very basic but the newer product has a more complicated set of shaders that probably help the look in Poser but break the compatibility with DAZ Studio... you just get an untextured mesh loaded. I may keep both so I can work in either software. Not sure about the other Low Poly Movie sets ... have bought 2 and 3 but not installed them yet.

I have a question?  I believe I have purchased some these dreamland sets at rendo some time ago.. are these sets  going to be available for me to download in the future at daz if i need to? like what happen with RDNA, or are are my purchased downloads going to still be available at rendo.   Lots of stores and artist  moving and merging with daz lately its hard to keep up what content i have bought is at what store anymore.

Daz and Runtime DNA merged. I doubt that will happen with the other store as they strike me as a very successful store. (I liked RDNA but it never felt like it was quite as successful.)

I have many of his products from Rendo as well but may rebuy these simply to have them through DIM and to encourage him to stick around here. In general his stuff works quite well. I even have his 81 blocks product and it can work in Daz also and I once made a huge city with it and did a render. The city was so big it bogged down my computer and daz until I set my preview window to wireframe only!

I've attached a render I did some retouching on with one of Dreamlight's products. This is pre-Iray but you get the idea.

  • I see I do not in fact own any of those, mine are all the higher poly blocks with powerpoles and are indeed props not cr2 so yeah in light of that unsure.

Welcome, Dreamland Models! Happy to see him here! His sets are wonderful and very versatile. I have most of his non low-poly models (which are still over at the other store.) Many of them work in DAZ just fine. I'm sure the low poly ones do too.

This one was done in 3Delight when I was just starting to learn DAZ (Movie set 4, non poly version): http://www.daz3d.com/gallery/#images/106904

And so was this one (movie set 7, non poly- I hadn't figured out how to retexture the window of the firestation here when I did this one): http://www.daz3d.com/gallery/#images/106848

I haven't tried them in Iray yet, but with retexturing they should be fine.

I'm not so sure. In the Infinite insanity thread, MrPoser posted that although the CR2 loads the geometry, you would have to manually retexture these sets for Daz Studio, which could be a whole lot of extra work to make them work

All I can tell you is from my experience which comes from the dreamland sets I own I got at rendo, they all work including the sky dome in Daz Studio.4.9, some of the texture wet maps that used Python scripts for poser do not work in Daz Studio. but over all the dreamland poser sets work pretty decent in Daz studio. with just minor tweaking to the specular settings.

Now as for genesis 3 characters & some of the DUF sets, They do not not translate Poser so easy.  So I stand by my statement that most poser content will work fine in Daz Studio. , its just most of the new daz 4 content does not translate well to Poser. its not a insult or put down of daz content., it was a statement made from personal experience.

  • I had these on my wishlist over at 'R' and never did pick them up.  I'm very happy to see them here and plan to start collecting!  I can handle tweaking just fine and can't wait to see them in Iray.

I use dreamland sets all the time in animated films. they are great sets.  its just after had most of my RDNA content transferred to daz , I didn't know if that would be the case for  individual artist that are moving content to daz. I meant the artist content that was sold on other sites are going to be merged into our Daz product library.  I didn't mean for my comment to sound like daz was merging with rendo. Sorry about the confusion. if it came across that way.

Oh I agree that the majority of Poser content can easily be used in Daz Studio with minimal effort. I own many 'Poser only' models and characters and they work just fine. It's just that potential buyers of the new releases today might be misinformed and purchase them assuming they will work with simple tweaks to the material settings, when it seems they are not the same as the rendo versions and would require full retexturing. I simply wanted to clarify that. I wasn't making any statement about compatibility in general.

you could contact the PA Ivy as while Rendo and DAZ not affiliated they might be able to arrange something

That said I have stuff by ironman, Powerage and others too at Rendo now here and just use my own judgement about checking what I own even with 104 pages in product library a quick check not hard, my Rendo list is fortunately shorter.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll do that. .  I guess this is why I feel its is good reason to keep back ups of the content I buy on my own Storage drives :)

I own the majority of Dreamland Model's products from Rendo and have never had much of an issue using them in DS, but I have to admit that I'm baffled as to why he's selling these here when the exact same sets still seem to be on sale at Rendo.  Also strange that he's leading off with the low-poly sets, as they're exactly what the name implies and not really designed for closeups.

They are taking their own sweet time into getting into DIM ... sudden nasty thought - did I check if they were Connect only?

<edit>Nope, they are good for DIM - just taking a while to show up (going on 4 hours now)</edit>

It may be something else, but are downloads for Poser enabled in your DIM settings?

Daz cannot encrypt the Poser content.

Let me see if I got this right. These are not the same as the ones at Rendo, but are low poly versions. If I buy these they are not good for closeups and to use in Daz Studio I'll need to retexture and tweek. The streets are also not included or available yet? I got excited when I first saw them but I think I'll wait on my purchase.

Sidenote:  what's with the hot air ballons in the promos?

Why are these Poser only? Does anyone have these that could test them in Daz? I know that Daz can use many Poser files so I'm confused as to why these wouldn't work in Daz.

I'm pretty new so this might be a stupid question. Any help you guys can give would be appreciated! :)

Amazing models IMO - I've bought a lot in the past. A few materials need fixing in Iray, but for the most part they render very well. The "Poser Only" may come from the fact that his 'city block' idea is part of a larger framework with a large street grid and scripts for moving blocks around.

I've attached a couple of uninspired renders with minimal fixes to surfaces, rendered in Iray.

I can't seem to figure out which set has the gas station in it?

    Apparently I still need more caffeine . . .

think are also at Rendo I just amended that I do not have them after posting I did and work in D|S, unable to post links but ones I have look similar but have all the powerlines etc and are props not cr2.

.................................................and maybe he anticipated there is a lot of hot air coming and decided to dress it up to suit? cheeky

No, DreamLand Models has a series of regular street blocks (like 20+)  and a shorter series (9) of low-polly ones. The low-poly ones are not low-poly versions of the regualr ones, but new sets, just designed for distance renders. Useful to load up a regualr street block and then add low-poly ones to the adjacent sides further away from the camera.

What some of us are wondering is if there are any differences from the low poly sets he was selling at RMP vs. the ones here.

Pretty impressive to see DAZ bringing in Poser specific content like this.

I would love to know if there are problems loading the materials into DS for these sets (i.e. the ones being sold at DAZ). And if there are, has anyone tried loading a set in Poser Gamedev and then exporting it out?

The thing is, the Rendo products that are being brought over by Powerage have been dropped at Rendo, and the items brought over by Ironman almost always have the materials re-done for Iray and new poses for Genesis 2 or 3 figures, even though the geometry is the same.  But as near as I can tell, these items are still being sold under the same names at Renderosity, the illustrations seem to show identical geometry and they're still Poser materials only, so there doesn't seem to be any reason for these "new" Dreamland products to exist at DAZ.  Unless Dreamland's pulling up shop and moving in total... but if so, why start off with the lowest quality items?  It's all really confusing.

He's had a lot of products over at Rendo, and the fact that most of them are still in the store there would tend to vouch for their popularity. I know a few things have gone clearance/disapearance, but not many. Manly things like individual tree or stump models, or the railroad stuff that was in Vue format. I've been following his store since about 2009, and picking up his stuff whenever there was a sale, and have most of it by now. But not all.

Could anyone say offhand which of the main Movie set blocks is the one with the playground that shows up in the foreground of the promos for Low-poly blocks 1&2? I'm not placing it, but I know I've probably got it.

For peope who haven't encountered his stuff before, he has a number of great, somewhat older sets which he did before he started the two city block serieses. For example; Miss Kristin's School House includes both the  interior and exterior scenes and a load of props that can be saved out to use elsewhere. The Fisher's Warehousing set has turned up in a number of gallery images, and seems to play nicely with Stonemason. He's also got a number of serieses of furniture with an amazing array of materials, although I don't know how many of them will apply with a douple-click in Studio. He's also got a nice lot of vinatage cars and other vehicles.

(Oh, as to the hot ar balloons; for the furniture promos he used to tend to include capering animals, particularly the DAZ Squirrell.)

*slap, slap, slap, slap ....* blush

    Thank you @Ati

  • mine are not the lowpoly ones as I said but this is 4 of them mixed with the 5 Stonemason UrbanSprawl 3 sets scaled down to 95% and replicated in Carrara

as you can see they blend well and the lowpoly ones could indeed be instanced in DAZ studio the same to border Stonemason's sets.

Wow that render looks great ToeJam!! That is the best compliment for his products if they can blend with the master Stonemason!

It's a mix.  The Carousel is a standalone item, the picnic tables are included with both the drive in movie theater and the diner, while the playground items are a combination of items from Miss Kristi's Schoolhouse and City Blocks 11.

I will almost certainly pick up 3 of these sets today in order to trigger the 20% off a gift card (since I am almost out of store credit). I will likely only use these in Daz Studio, and whilst I am perfectly happy to tweak the shaders, I would rather not have to manually assign all the textures to each surface. Someone mentioned that is an issue with pack 01, is anyone aware of any other packs that suffer this issue?

Like others have commented, I am also having issues seeing what is in each block, as the promos show multiple blocks in some renders. I will only buy three, so any recommendations of which 3 would be great. I never bought any from Rendo, so I have free choice of the 9 blocks.

  • What is the main difference between the low poly sets and the other ones that cost more?  It looks like the sets are intermingled with high poly and low poly and I'm not sure what the difference would be between them all.  Why are some low poly and some higher poly sets?  I'm in the middle of making some custom textures for block 1 that I got just to see how it does.  I know one advantage to low poly is for animation and distance shots, but I'm wondering why the intermingling of both high and low poly with the sets as a whole.  Anyone know?  These have been on my wishlist for a long time at Rendo so I'll still be collecting them, but the answer would be interesting.  I'd also be curious to know if all of other sets are coming over here, including the higher poly sets and the newly revised sets.
