I want to add some puzzles or simples mazes to my website for my children's books. Something like the ones you find in a kids coloring and activity books. A search online finds a lot of crossword makers and word search stuff that's geared more toward adults. I'm sure there has to be something that teachers use and hopefully isn't too expensive.

Well you could download Unity Free and search their asset store, which I know has a few...you'd need to create models and textures for those algorthms to create a cornfield maze for example.

You could also search Bing or Google for maze generator website. I'd be very surprise if you didn't find more than one.

You must customizable hope though is to use Unity Free and search their asset store. I know it has a dungeon maze generator for $10 - replace the dungeon walls with cornfiilds sections or privat hedges and you are set.

Is this 2D or 3D? If 2D, you ought to be able to find lots of choices with some basic Google searches. This one popped up first for 'maze generator':

Looks pretty nifty. Charge for commercial use, but use by teachers ought to be non-commercial.Save as an SVG and open it in Inkscape or Illustrator for further editing.

Thank you. I guess I should clarify this is something for print or could download to paper if wanted. I'm not wanting to ceate a digital maze although that does sound pretty cool. Might be an idea for later.

For that then you need to search Bing/Google and get one that allows free for commercial use. I know for a fact there are several free open source maze generation algorithms out there you just have to hope someone's made one of them easy & free for you to use. Printing a web page via a browser to PDF is standard in Edge, IE and maybe Chrome & Firefox now.

    There is also a Mazedness - http://www.daz3d.com/mazedness-for-daz-studio

but, not so cheap and you need to create a maze yourself from provided parts.

I have found even better and free solution - Jigsaw filter in the Gimp.

You can find it under "Filters" | "Render" | "Pattern" | "Jigsaw"

Below is a screenshot from the Gimp and a quick puzzle, I have made.

Thanks everybody. I found a couple links I think will work. I was really hoping to find software I could use that might have lots of different types of puzzles, not just mazes. This was a creation from one of the generaters I found online.

Do you have any examples of puzzles, you are searching for? It will be much easier to find something, if one can actually see examples, of what you are after.

  • I don't know if you are still looking for maze/puzzle software, but I know of a couple.

This one does a lot of different kinds of puzzles:  Puzzlemaker

Maze Creator :  Does a variety of maze types

OpenSCAD is an open source program using code to generate models.  It also can be used to export to SVG which can then be manipulated using a program like Inkscape or Illustrator.

Here's a link to some maze generators using OpenSCAD (Click on Clone or Download and select Download Zip:

    https://github.com/JustinSDK/MazeSCAD

    OpenSCAD here:

Daedalus, another FREE maze generation program.  It outputs to BMP (bitmap) or WMF (Windows Metafile).  Either
format can be read by either Inkscape (WMF) or most photo editing programs.

    More here (including the download):

Last, there's (and you may have already come across this):

    and

    and

    and this:

P.S. Daedalus allows you to do the same thing as the last generator using your own images.

The GIMP maze filter allows one to use images as the basis for mazes.

    More on this here:

Using this technigue, layers and a few others, I created the attachment.

... and the Maze filter is also there ...
