How do I install the "manual" downloads of "Scene Builder" & " Default Resources"?
In my "Product Library", in the "Daz Studio 4.9 Pro" section, I downloaded two items using the "Manual" option:
- Scene Builder for DAZ Studio
- Default Resources for DAZ Studio 4.9+
I just finished installing the actual Daz Studio program.
But now I am at a loss as to how to install these two items. They are both zip files. When you unzip them, there are only ".dsx" files.
How can I install these two components?

"When you unzip them, there are only ".dsx" files."
Actually, no. The files you see are the Manifest or Supplement files that are used by DIM to place files in the correct locations. For manual downloads they can be ignored. However, upon extracting the contents of the .zips, you should also see a file folder. I recommend extracting the contents of the downloaded files to a temporary folder first. From there you can place the required files in the correct locations. Upon doing this, you may delete the Manifest and Supplement files.
First, you must know the name and location of a) your content library folder, and b) your DAZ Studio folder on your PC. If you have left the content library folder as the default content folder that DAZ Studio creates when it is installing, it should be called My Daz 3D Library. (You can create a new content folder and name it whatever you like on any drive as long as you tell DAZ Studio where to find it using the Content Directory Manager - having more than one content folder is possible, but having only one is preferable). The default folder for DAZ Studio itself is usually C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\DAZ Studio_4.5\, if you are using the 64-bit version.
The contents of the Scene Builder for DAZ Studio download contains a folder called "DAZ Studio_4.5". Within this folder is a second folder called "resources" - this is the one that you want. Assuming that the folder on your PC that contains the DAZ Studio program is the same as described above, then you can simply drag and drop the entire DAZ Studio_4.5 folder into your DAZ 3D folder and click yes when it asks if you want to merge the folders. Alternatively, especially if you have a different DAZ Studio installation folder, you can navigate to that folder, and simply copy the contents of the "resource" folder you downloaded into the "resource" folder in DAZ Studio folder. The "SceneBuilder.json" file should now be accessible to DAZ Studio.
The contents of the Default Resources for DAZ Studio 49 download contains a folder called "Content". Within this folder is a number of subfolders. All of these subfolders should be simply dragged and dropped or copied to your content library folder whatever or wherever that might be ( My Daz 3D Library if you are using the default). Once again click yes when it asks if you want to merge the folders.
Manual download and installation of any such files does require some knowledge of your file organization on your hard drive or drives, which is why many users prefer to use DIM or Connect to manage their content rather than doing so themselves. Knowing how to manually install content does have the advantage of being able to correctly do so when dealing with 3rd party (non-DAZ) content. The two examples that you asked about are actually good ones in that one is an add-on for DAZ Studio itself and must be placed in one of the program folders, whereas the second one consists of content that must be placed in your content library.
Before I attempt these installations, can I ask you an important question?
I installed both the 64 & 32 Bit versions of Daz Studio...on my 64 Bit system.
I did this because I was concerned that the items offered for sale at Daz's store might not be compatible with the 64 Bit version of Daz Studio.
Can you tell me if this was a correct assumption?
All content sold at the Daz 3D store fo use in Daz Studio will be compatible with Daz Studio regardless of bit version.
Right. There's no good reason that I can think of why you would want the 32-bit version on a 64-bit system. Just an unnecessary complication, IMO.
I'm not aware of any product that requires the 32 bit version of DS (the reverse isn't true - anything Iray needs the 64 bit version) but only the 32 bit version has the LipSync plug-in for voice matching.
Instead of directly dropping "ScenBuilder.json" into the "Resource" folder...can I create a sub-folder (for example, a folder called "Scene Builder") and place it there?
I notice everything else is in a sub-folder, so for the sake of tidyness I would prefer to do that in this case as well.
@SixDS thanks very much for your detailed explanation. I am just now returning to DAZ after a lengthy hiatus, and your post was very helpful.
I am trying to do a similar thing. Any advide will be appriciated.
Please can someone tell me how to drop in files from : IM00013176-42_DefaultResourcesforDAZStudio49 / Content / Folder to the correct locations in C:/Daz Studio/Resource Folder? There are abouot 12 folders. In which one do i put files from my IM00013176 download?
