Matte and Sheer pantyhose/stocking shader settings...

Hey all,

I am trying to recreate the look of both matte and sheer look for pantyhose/stockings. When I used Poser there was an awesome BagginBill shader he made that let you adjust the sheerness/denier settings to change the opacity and shininess of the material. I am still trying to wrap my head around iray settings and I am wondering if anyone could help me with figuring out how to achive this? I am including a couple of images for the looks I am trying to get.

You can change the opacity with the "cutout opacity" slider. The shininess can be adjusted several ways - "glossy layered weight", "glossy reflectivity", even a bit of shiny sheerness can be added with a little "metallic flakes weight" (be warned, metallic flakes weight can really slow down a render).

I've been asking for this for years with zero response.  With all the fantasy/Sci-Fi/horror items that proliferate the store, it seems that this isn't that kinda crowd.

Thanks Diva, I appreciate the info on the shaders to tinker with. I will give them a try and see how it goes. Not to worried about the time since I generally render while I am in bed or at work. Several of those sliders were not ones I had tried yet. Thank you!

I got spoiled while using Poser, the material room was so easy to use compared to the brickyard that studio has. I am glad that your questions were finally ansswered and feel free to ask questions here if you like.

Try these. I made them using the base Iray shaders that come with Daz Studio and then made adjustments from there. I hope that they are helpful or even just a "starting off point" for your own shader making. :)

Open the zip and the file and drop the file's contents into your Shader Presets folder.

WOW Diva! that is awesome, thank you. That is way above and beyond, I will certainly give this a try and post an image of what I come up with.

Sounds good. I look forward to seeing your render. :)

    Thanks Diva,

I'll play with those tonight after work.  I've been fiddling with trying to make a nice organza fabric.  Your shaders might help.

    Diva,

The shader preset is asking for the bewitching leggings set for Genesis.

    This is the error I am getting. /data/Debra R/Bewitching for Genesis/Bewitching Leggings/UV Sets/Debra R/Base/default.dsf

As the zip contains .duf files I'm guessing they were saved as a metrial preset, thus requring the underlying item, and not a shader preset.

Just tried them and they work for me, as-is, but then I do have the Bewitched item!

  • shadowhawk1shadowhawk1 Posts: 2,201

I had my brother try it out as well and he doesn't have the Bewitched set either and got the same error.

Tried it on a computee that doesn't ans yes, that error crosp up, but something does seem to get applied, though not the full effect

From the error it appears to be just the UV map

  • The tights/pantyhose from here: https://www.wilmapsdigitalcreations.co.uk/view_product.php?id=62 autofit nicely and look good with just the Iray Uber base shader on them. Or if you already have a pair of Hose and just need shaders, Allenart's Shimmery sheer Fabric shaders are very nice and come in lots of different colors.

I am using OOT's Superhose from a different site, I am looking for shaders that have a better look than what I have been able to find or tinker with. I will try the allenart's shaders I beleive I have them already

Have you tried just converting the Superhose shaders with the Daz Uber Iray shader? If you haven't, don't forget to have the surface selected and to hold Control when you double click.

Thanks Diva.  Will try those out later on.

I am using iray on the superhose, I am trying to create a shader that looks more realistic to actuall sheer and matte pantyhose

Thanks for the links, The OOT Superhose are my go to pantyhose for all of the material zones and options it has. I downlaoded the shaders and played with them some. While a great shader and after tinkering with it a bit it still isn't quite what I am looking for. I may have to break down and buy the bewitched set so I can try out Diva's shaders.

I have an idea ... as saving them as a shader preset seems to keep hold of the underlying UV, give me a moment (or two) and I'll load them on the computer where they work and apply them to a DAZ primitive and resave them and then, hopefully, and required UV everyone will have ;)

Hopefully not stepping on @divamakeup's toes, but try these - same name as originals, but no icons; used diva's shaders on a DAZ sphere and a save as shader preset from there.

That worked Simon! Thanks for the assistance and Thank you Diva for the original shaders. You are both awesome!

when saving shader and material presets, you can uncheck the UVs per surface and any other info like maps that you dont want changed when the preset is applied

Thanks for that tip Matty. Saving material presets and sahders was a lot easier in Poser for me. I guess its just a new learning curve I need to learn.

Its all in what you're use to.  As you play around with saving those and other presets, always check the options box in the upper left to see what other abilities are there for saving out the different presets.

Thanks Simon for the updated shader.  I forgot to try these out yet.

Not an option I saw ... I'll have to look closer!

All I did was think a bit laterally and own the Bewitched product ;)

Ah thanks, Simon. :) I was going to fix them after I got some work done, but you beat me to it. Thanks. :)

I know this thread hasn't had a post in ages. However, if anyone finds it please note the incredible nylon stockings created by iWave: https://www.daz3d.com/nylon-stockings-for-genesis-3-and-8-females    To my knowledge, no other artist has achieved the level of realism iWave has. The system is brilliant and produces the subtle elements of sheer hosiery that is so hard to get with typical translucent shaders. Moreover, I believe iWave is considering releasing a pantyhose product based on the same system. I certainly hope so and am sure many others who strive for realistic optical behavior of materials will agree.

and for the record, this product was directly inspired by this thread https://www.daz3d.com/dg-iray-super-sheer-shaders
