First up please don't tell me about brushes you can use. I have looked into this and they are only useable if you are using them working with a full on image where if you want to use them on a curved wall they would not look right as there is no way to move a brush circular like 3D and yeh also the war ruin thigns you can buy I also checked out. But yes I notice there seems to be nothing like this in the store with is unfortunate so does anyone know where to get any? thanks.

  • You could always apply the brushes to the texture, with an opacity map to make the centre see-through.

Substance Painter, 3D-Coat, Blacksmith 3D, MARI, ZBrush, Carrara, Blender, etc. All of the foregoing and many others provide the ability to create or edit textures right on the models in 3D, thus avoiding the stretching or distortion issues you mention - what you see is what you get. They run the gamut from free to very expensive (for a hobbyist, at least) and represent varying degrees of difficulty to learn. The results apparently are variable as well, although I cannot say from personal experience. You'll need to seek further advice if that is the route you wish to go.

I don't think it's possible to make a "prop" that negates another prop to make a hole. It's a pity, a "portable hole" would be so handy. Every couple of days there's a "how do I make a human-shaped cutout" or bullet hole, window, door, mouse hole, etc. thread.

    Piece of pie in Carrara.

I am trying to imagine how you make a prop for a bullet hole.

Also, you CAN skew and curve brushes, or rather, the layer that the brush is on. Not a desired answer, I know, but it does work. I had to work it out once for bloody handprints.

  • I would use log1 from the wood chopping kit or the pole from Tied, Tied2, Tied3 and scale it to a flat circle of the desired size. Then you can colour it as needed.

I haven't tried it so I don't know how well it would work for this; but you might be able to do something with Shape Reprojector.

Actually, some 2D programs have a tool to help curve brushes around circular objects.  I know both Gimp and Photoshop have this.  It takes a little bit of practice to get it right, though.

I'm not near my rendering PC so I can't try it at the moment, but I'm pretty sure that k you could use Mcausal's tailor's chalk script... https://sites.google.com/site/mcasualsdazscripts4/mcjtailorschalk ; to get generate a set of perfectly matched circular opacity maps to cutout the skin on the front and back of the figure, then just use a tube or half-tube shape to create the "inside".  Maclean's Morphing Primatives are ideal for this kind of stuff.

I don't see why a bullet hole object couldn't be modeled

The way I see it happening is you have a few options, single hole, small row of say 3 or 4, and a long row of many

Now, it's not entirely a hole mind you, but more of an indent/tube shape (kind of like a test-tube shape)

then place the "bullet hole" object flat agains your surface and set mesh smoothing of the surface to collide with the bullet hole object.

hmmm, might be a good first item for me to try to make... if I can find the time

Hmmmmm. I may give it a whirl myself, as time allows. Maybe chips, dents and cracks, too. Hmmm ...

Of, course textures would need to be left up to the user, to match the wall or whatnot.

    Ah....

http://www.daz3d.com/iray-decal-kit would be how, I am guessing.

I had thought about suggesting an iray decal but the couple times I used it, the only options for placing the decal were front and back

    No side, top or bottom
