Chat Room

How about a chat room, where we can discuss this 3D stuff, we seem to like. I don't know what it would take, to do it on this site. You can always do live chat sessions on your youtube channel, on Friday nights or whenever. Having ideas or thoughts in our heads and getting them out, is one thing, but getting some immedaite feedback, will help us out alot. If anybody has a comment on this idea please leave a constructive reply below.

Well I, opps, you said constructive, my bad, LOL
I honestly have no use for one here, but not against it. I have used them in other communities and forums in the past and didn't find them particularly helpful, just more of a novelty.
If enough peeps want it, I say go for it.
As a former chat room regular at another site, I can honestly say that while we did discuss 3D from time to time, most of the time the topic was no where near 3D...usually food. LOL

Plenty of free chat rooms like irc freenode. Just need a browser, type a channel name and it's created & ready for use.
Problem is usually one of moderation.
I suspect forums are easier to moderate than a chat room. Likely for this reason (and others), Daz has chosen forums as their primary means of user to user communication.
That being said, if someone knows of a chat room or creates one (would have to name it something generic, like CGArtists, since it wouldn't be operated directly by Daz3D), I'd probably join off and on. Certainly not a bad idea.
I have a chat room that I visit regularly, but granted the regulars are mostly Poser users. Might not be the kind of 3D discussion you'd be wanting, even tho they're cool with DS users. But then, same deal as above....the discussion turns more to other topics than to 3D.LOL ;). The upside is, I've made a lot of 3D friends that I've talked to for years and years now. On the downside, one can only discuss so much 3D....too much of a good thing...hehe.

Well... they used to have a chat. Not sure how long ago it (and the whole site that went with it) went away or why exactly, but moderation and issues around whether to keep it "on topic" were likely factors.
there is always Facebook Messenger
I like tool-themed chat rooms; yeah, a lot of the conversation is just some buddies hanging out, but it provides 1.) a place to make friends who share your interests and 2.) direct access to a useful skillset. I used to hang out on an Interactive Fiction chat room thingie and yeah, food, random non-IF games, cats, kids, whatever-- but usually people in the chatroom were also kind of working on some IF and always happy to discuss techniques and brainstorm solutions. Basically... a general chat room where X topic is NEVER off topic or a weird tangent or anything, you know?
Well, you guys could always create a Discord. Just a suggestion, but get people who you trust, who are impartial, and can put rationality ahead of preferences for any program, platform, or creator as your mods. And, no, I am not volunteering. :D
Eh. Not my cup of tea anymore. Used to hang out in some around 2001-2003, but that chat system is long gone.
I think we should discuss raising money for you toe operation !!!
I was reading up on that as I hadn't heard of it (not enough time in the day to do it, either!) But, if anyone does use Freenode, I'd recommend having the +i (must be invited) and/or +k (must know password) coding or in the name, however that works, so you don't get trolls. The +r prevents unregistered and not logged in people from seeing the channel contents.
There are quite a few Skype groups already in existance, but I just didn't have time to chit-chat (appreciated the invites) as the topics were "everything and anything goes." We've got threads here in the forums that do that, and I don't surf those either!
I got a saw.
I like chat because it can create a sense of community, but yeah, it requires an investment to do right (IE: moderation).
Every 3D chat room I've ever been in ends up about food XD In fact... pretty much every chatroom I've ever been in...
The toes are cute! At least I don't see bunyons or hammer toes!
The way some people post around here I kind of thought a couple of the thread pretty much were a chat room. haha
Food... pets... TV/movies... weird hobbies...
Especially food and pets - primarily cats, because - as we all know - the internet runs on cat pics. LOL
On a more serious note, it IS a great way to get help quickly if someone in the chat room knows anything about your particular issue and is able to help, but chat rooms require moderation. I'm not sure the admins are willing to deal with it. Would be nice if they did, but I could understand if they didn't :P

I'd be happy to moderate a chatroom... but I'm pretty sure no one would be happy with my moderation >:-}
I would ...
(remembers from ol' mIRC ... "slaps you with a large trout" )
I'm a pretty solid user of Discord Chat. It's mostly built for gaming, but the potential for moderation is a lot like IRC...lot of choices if you know how to use the API to create bots and such. I, came here actually looking to see if DAZ had one, as Blender and ZBrush have their own as well as all Allegorithmic (Substance Designer producers). From what I see so far is that they both are great for staying on topic. If anyone does end up creating a chatroom, I recommend Discord. It is also a bit easier to use than the ol' IRC channels.
Is there a Discord channel/server for Daz, by chance?
None that I know of.
I enjoyed going into yahoo chat rooms, back before it was taken over by bots and creeps. Then I moved on to direct connect. Those were fun because they were easy to program and we had a lot of fun experimenting with different coding to have the chat room automatically reply to certain phrases or randomly ask questions or tell a joke, trivia games that kept user scores, plus all the normal mod stuff you could think of. Such as swear 3 times and you get booted from the chat for say 10 minutes. Get booted 3 times and you get banned for 24 hours or something like that.
Alas, all those chats are dead now too.
Well I created a Discord (Unofficial) server a little while ago but didn't roll it out since I was trying to recruit someone to moderate it but it dodn't work out. It is up and running, I can give it a trial run to see how people are on it. i.e. if it's a helpful environment. I haven't run a discord server before so there might be some wrinkles.
Tried to get in contact with you about the discord you have, but since you havn't answered, then I send you a DM.
The topic of a Discord server has come up before. They can be good but absolutely need to be moderated because people are sometimes awful and dumb. For activities involving interaction in real time like games Discord's good for coordinating, but that's not what we mostly do here. And I wouldn't join a Discord server where you're likely to see a panicky @here or @everyone whenever someone can't figure out how to get their whatever to do what is they want, which is basically the only reason you'd ask a question on Discord rather than here.
I think the forums are probably a better choice for most purposes because they're connected to the store, via Daz Deals and also well moderated.
Sounds to me, that you have been experiencing a couple of bad admin/moderators on some servers. Sorry to hear that, if that is the case.
But since Joe Cotter hasn't been answering back, then a small group has started a new functional server, with better administration on it. Atleast that is what I think.
