Urban Booties for Genesis 8 Male(s) and Female(s)

Does anyone have these boots and will they render for you? When I have them in a scene and I try to render, a white render wildow will open and the window that shows the iterations will be small and white too. There will be a blue spinning dial. You can't do anything at that point. You can't cancel the render. You can't even open the task manager or the windows menu or anything else. The hard drive light will be on solid. After about 7-8 minutes, the spinning dial will go away and then you can move the mouse. The render window will get that checker board panel and the iteration window will get bigger and you will start to see it looping. And then shortly thereafter, a small window will pop up that says Please Wait. And then another dialogbox will come up that says that DS has encountered a fatal error. Help make DS better by submitting a bug report. And then DS closes.
If I remove the boots from the scene, then everything runs normally.
I installed the boots through Daz connect, if that makes any difference.

umm I would definitly put in a bug report if I wereyou .I don't have the boots ,but that sure doesn't sound right
Thanks. I did submit a help desk ticket. The link in error message for submitting a bug report only brought up an error message. I think that the page didn't exist.
well that's very interesting...hmmm. I have the booties but haven't yet had a chance to try them out. After reading this, I loaded them up. One G8F figure, undies and tank top, 2 spotlights. No hair. And while they DID render and didn't crash, it took an awful long time for the render to start.
I'm curious about what it says as it renders.... see attached screenshot. Surely that "geometry memory consumption...1.01129 GiB" bit isn't saying the booties are 1 gb???? (I don't know what GiB refers to....is that gigabites?) And texture memory consumption is 2.52441 GiB......
I'm sure that GiB stands for GB. I don't think I can see what it says as it renders because a few seconds after I see the render window and the iteration windows fill in with information, DS throws up the Please wait message.
I even tried just the boots and the same thing happened. I was thinking of deleting and trying to install with DIM. But I figured I'd wait and see what Suppor thas to say.
The boots have a renderSubD level of 6 - that's 4,096 times the base polygon count of 36K or roughly 140 million polygons. That's going to strain any system; it also seems unwarranted as there are no displacement or HD morphs to use the extra vertices. I would set Render SubD to a lower level, say 3, and see how they look. (Edit: I haven't checked to see if any of the alternative materials use high-redolution displacement maps, but the base doesn't so a lower initial SubD level seems sensible.)
Thanks for the information to reduce the renderSubD level. Perhaps that will make the product somewhat useful for me. I am seriously tempted to return the product as it is.
Perhaps the creator could issue an update to make this a permanent change? Or should I just try making the change and saving the changed version as my own by doing "save as->figure/prop asset" or whatever the exact wording of the menu options is. Am away from my computer currently so I cannot just try that myself right now.
No need to save as an asset, just save a new character presets or wearables preset with the new setting and use that instead of the official one to load the item (pending an official update).
Urban Booties?
So there is an update coming?
No idea, I meant that the new preset would don until there was an update, if there was an update.
GiB is the accurate measurement as opposed to GB which rounds it down.
whoa! thanks Richard, I hadn't even thought to look at the subD level. That's VERY high, for no discernable reason.
thanks nicstt. I was curious about that.
I dropped the setting down and I was able to render without DS crashing on me. Thanks.
I heard back from Tech Support. They want me to upgrade to the latest version and try to render again. I normally upgrade but since some people said that they were experiencing freeze ups, I have held off doing so.
In HD sizes GB are usually using base 10, going up by factors of 1,000, instead of base 2, gong up by factors of 1,024, but memory sizes (and I would expect memory usage statisitics) almost always use the correct multiplier is usually used regardless of symbol.
Looks like this was fixed via an update in DIM this morning. Many thanks for making this really neat product much easier to use!
