Noir Style Tutorial
It took almost three months (at two posts a week, for most of the time), but today the final chapter of my Noir Style Tutorial has posted at my blog. I must admit, I'm a bit hesitant to post this here because it is a tutorial for Poser 11 (it doesn't work with earlier versions), but since I do use a LOT of Daz characters and props, I hope no one will mind. I've also been told that, even though I use Poser 11 for the initial renders, the concepts and details are applicable to almost any software and workflow.
This is the actual image created in the tutorial.

And here are some other examples of the style.
A few comic pages and a character study...
And finally, some sketches and ways you can bring color into your art using these technques.
I don't do poser but WOW! cool tutorial and very detailed! The artwork is amzing too!
I still want to learn Poser, and have it so this will be useful indeed.
Depending on what you hope to get out of it, Poser can be a very useful tool to add to your kit. For example, even the base version does have dynamic cloth, which you can export as an OBJ to use in Daz Studio. And, of course, it has the ability to do a LIVE Comic Book Preview render, which is what I use to create my line work. The benefit to the "Live" part is that it happens in real time; you see the shadows moving as you adjust your lights, meaning you can tweak it in very subtle ways. This is opposed to a render-based soltuion which requires that you set up the lights and then have to render the scene to see what you're going to get. This isn't as much a problem with Iray or 3Delight renders, but it does matter when you're working with high-contrast images like those I use.
Anyway, if you do delve into Poser, let me know. I would love to see what results you get.
Finally settled on the design for my Hero of the story. Now, to settle on the dragon!
