What's the REASON you can't buy Gift Cards with Store Credit ?

In the "Details" section for the DAZ Gift Card it says "Store credit is not a valid payment method. Credit Card or PayPal only." I admit that it's not quite on a par with "why does a return ticket cost less than a one way ticket" (for which I've never found a proper explanation), but it does provoke the same sort of "the world is almost certainly being run by a bunch of maniacs" reaction in my brain.

I'm wondering what's the reason? Not a "because that's the rules" type reason, but something that makes logical sense to a layperson.

My guess is that it's something to do with accounting procedures, tax, etc... but surely somebody can do better than just guess ?

So you can't keep stacking discounts forever. Buy $100 giftcard, pay only $90. Then buy $110 giftcard using that $100. Then buy $120 giftcard using that. Then buy ... then buy $2,000 giftcard, while you only paid $90.

The math is wrong, but you get the idea.

That'd be a perfect explanation if discounts were applicable to the purchase of gift cards. But as far as I recall that's never been the case - I may be wrong though?

In fact, often just before one of the major sales you will be given an offer to purchase discounted Gift Cards, to enable you to save even more during the sales.

It was indeed when this practice started that Daz brought in the rule about not being able to purchase gift cards with Store credit, as the store credtit would probably be generated by the gift card system. A great many people do buy themselves gift cards when they have money, in case something they want comes up at the wrong end of a pay period. Others do it to limit the amount of times they need to charge small amounts to their CC or PayPal. One large payment instead of lot's of small ones can save on bank charges.

Okay, I wasn't aware that you could use discounts when buying gift cards. It's been a long time since I (or my alter ego) paid any real money here - I think 3d stuff was called 'stuff' in those days - now it's 'assets'... ;o)

Related question: Since gift cards are ruled out, is there any way to transfer store credit from one person to another ?

You would need to chat up a real friendly person who has DAZ_ in their user name. And have a very good reason why.

You need to submit a ticket and give the recipients info to CS and have them transfer it from your account to theirs.

  • chohole - not sure I've got a very good reason... maybe a stupid one will suffice ?  ;o)

    frank0314 - Thanks, I'll try that.
