Short Hair & Tattoos for Men

If someone can offer some advice - I know the short hair thing has been discussed many times on the board, but haven't seen much brought up about it lately. I'm looking for short/shaved hair styles for men, but the selection seems massively lacking; it seems there is a trend to want men looking like fashionistas or cotton balls or something, but what about simple, short hair - there can be more variation in short/simple styles than one might think, that not only one product would cover? Now, some recent trendier male hairstyles are looking just awesome - not to say all are over-the-top, but I haven't seen real short ones in a long time (crew cuts, flat top, buzzed/balding etc). Basically looking for some advice; for short hair, is there anything recent out there except for the simple short haircut for gen 3 - which seems to be the strongest contender from what I've been able to find (https://www.daz3d.com/simple-short-haircut-for-genesis-3-male-s)? For shaved hair, is this the best product - https://www.daz3d.com/shaved-hair-for-genesis-3-male-s ? Maybe someone has some advice on the best recent products (that would work well for gen8 & iray).
My second question is regarding tattoos that would work well on gen8 males. If someone has Inked vol 14 (https://www.daz3d.com/inked-vol-14-american-traditional-for-genesis-8-male-s), any comments on how well this works? I got a bit nervous to buy it, since I read a bunch of comments about vol. 12 not fitting right / visible seams / only working on the base uv - which, nevertheless, I still consider to buy, since the design looks so nice. Or are there some other male tattoo products out there that would still work on gen8 (or at least gen3)?
I appreciate the help :)

I don't know how short you expect short male hair to be, but there is actually a fairly good selection for G3M and G8M. I would also like to see an updated flat top style for G3 and G8. I have no idea how well these work with Iray, since I don't use Iray.

Ohhh thanks so much for this list, this is really helpful :)
I wanted to mention the Redz hair at Renderosity and something that people may not know which is that many of the more extreme hair here have settings so that you can "tame" them to something more conventional:
Here are two settings for George hair and one for Ryo hair in some incomplete renderings:
I get a lot of use out of Redz' Short Cropped hair over on Rendo. Both with Genesis 3 and 8. As Nemesis mentions above, some of the styles Redz shows in the promos may be more extreme than what you're looking for, but usually there are some more sedate versions included.
I've also tried the first one you mentioned, SMay's Simple Short Haircut but it didn't work out as well for the look I was after.
Pay attention to hairlines. Many pa's neglect the hairlines and make them unisex. This is obvious when you do a closeup render.
@nemesis10 Thanks a lot for the quick renders - that was helpful to see some variations, particularly with the George hair!
@nemesis10 & @ColinFrench Thanks, I will definitely check out the Redz hair - thinking about grabbing that, as it also looks very good from the promo pics
@Serene Yea, unfortunately I also noticed that already with several mens hairs that I've already picked up; unfortunately it's often hard to tell from many of the promo pics
By the way, I should have mentioned that when I use Redz Short Cropped Hair on Genesis 8, I sometimes have to inflate the skull cap slightly to avoid bits of poke through. Fortunately the hair comes with several morphs so you can tweak just the area with the issue, e.g. the sides / back / crown, rather than expanding the whole thing.
