Iray Clothing Decal Kit

I'm in early this time guys! Iray Decal Clothing Kit is a selection of preset decals and utilities for your favorite garments. The presets are applicable to the built-in Iray Decal Nodes available in studio. A variety of Dirt, Liquid, Paint and grime is at your disposal. Color tints are also available, giving you a broad spectrum of possibilities and variations with each decal. Decals can be applied to any garment, regardless of UV's or figure generation.

Yes, they're decals so they work on any surface. I sold it as a clothing kit however because the themes are more suited to clothing stains (like mud, dirt, liquid etc). If you want a dirt stain to appear on a tshirt for instance, and also on the arm, you simply duplicate the decal and parent it to the main figure. So long as the decal is parented to an object, it can show up on anything.

What is the best way to add a dirt decal to clothing?

I am trying to add some dirt/mud to some pants (similiar to the offroad dirt bike picture in the promos).

Looks fine, from the front view. But when I rotate the camera and look at my pants from the side or the back, the mud decal fades away from these views and it doesn't look nice anymore.

Should I add more decals for possible back and side views? Or is there any trick in handling decals that I am missing?

It depends. If you want to have consistent stains between a load of frames (like a comic book/animation) you might be better off with LIE. Otherwise, you simply need to make sure the decal is projecting from the same perspective as the camera. So if you're looking at the side of the character, the decal needs to be rotated on the Y axis in order to project onto the same area. Remember, it's projecting, it isn't static. The upside is you can use them anywhere, at any scale, on anything. The downside is once you move the camera, it might have to be re-positioned.

Again, simply rotate the decal until you have the area the camera is looking at covered. That's all i did in the dirt bike promos - I loaded in a decal, rotated it slightly so it hits the side of the leg, and then i duplicated the decal so i could have a few more stains on the character/bike.

Thank you for quick response. Yes, this is how I understand decals work. I just wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything here. Great product anyway, thank you very much.
