Are there any decent priced detailed rocket engines styled vaguely similar to the SSME (space shuttle main engine), Saturn V engines, etc?

(in DAZ Studio or early Poser format, with commercial renders allowed.)

  • You might find something in the NASA free 3d model archive.

Only found this https://www.sharecg.com/v/28809/browse/5/3D-Model/pauljs75_NasaShuttle on ShareCG it is in .OBJ format so Daz Studio can read it.. All the others and the ones on the Nasa website are in .3ds format which Daz Studio can not use unfortunately..

There are a couple of Saturn F-1 (Saturn V third stage) and J-2 (second stage) engines at TurboSquid that are available as .objs, though the more detailed ones are pretty pricey.  There's a fairly nicely detailed J-2 for $30 by Stuart Howes.  The best I can think of that would be cheaper is Ranman38's full Saturn V model at Renderosity (poser format) which breaks down in stages and the third stage has a sinlge large exposed engine.  It's only moderately detailed, but you could hide the rest of that stage and use some of DZ Fiires Geebles or postwork to make it look more like the real thing.

  • The Nasa site has a variety of file formats such as FBX, Blender, lwo, & 3ds.  I bring 3ds models into DS via Blender or Poser.

..does Poser preserve the mapping information?

  • It will when you save as a .pz3 and then import it into ds.

If you have SketchUp....there are quite a few decent models in their model warehouse...nothing heavily detailed, however....gotta pay for the quality stuff.sad
