Is it possible to get Lacy Short Socks without the lace @ Morphing Socks?

Morphing Socks are really great, but I'm pretty dumb about how to get rid of the laced look and just have a standard socks appearance while retainig the size/shape of the Laced Short Socks.

It's for this product, and I was curious if it's possible to produce the Lacy Short Socks without the Laced appearance like in

    https://www.daz3d.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/0/1/01-morphing-socks-for-genesis-3-and-8-daz3d.jpg

so that I could give Genesis 8 Male the loafer socks look that men typically wear with boat shoes and whatnot.

  • I think you should be able to get there by applying a knit material, but I'm still not entirely sure what you are aiming at - could you post a render showing the look you are now getting, with a note to show what needs to change.

Could be as simple as running Opacity dial in materials down to 0 (zero).

Oops, posted without a lot of thought.  Try removing any image in Opacity line of Materials and leave Opacity to 100%

Don't have the product, so I'm just going by the product info.

There are 3 sock length presets available. 2 of the promo images show textures that can be used on any length of sock (any length promo and ribbed promo). The lace and tricot textures are designed for specific length socks.

So, it the texture you would like is in either of the any length promos, you're good to go. Alternatively, you can use the desired length and apply your own fabric shader to it.

Looks like someone needs to learn how to use the surface tab to change textures as this looks like a very easy fix from what i see in the promos.

For IRay, remove the transparency map from property "Cutout Opacity".

I have a good sense of the surface tab, but the specific length I want for the socks is only included with the Laced appearance. Applying or changing the texture and/or design reverts the length entirely. Thanks for the not-so-useful input, I guess, since you didn't seem to tell me of this "very easy fix?"

Removing the transparency map reverts the sock's length back to its original length.

Using Any Length Designs returns the sock back to its default loading length instead of retaining the loafer-appearance. I just want to retain the length of Laced Socks without its... laced texture. :S

You could import the opacity map into Gimp or PS and fill the lace pattern with solid white. Save as a copy so you don't lose the original!

  • The Mini Socks seem the same length, some scallopng aside, as the lacy preset here

I may try that, although I'm very unskilled with photoshop lol. >_< Thanks for the suggestion however, never would've thought of that!

And they're similar, but not similar enough, Richard. I want to get this look for the men for the very purpose of the boat shoes that Genesis 3 Male has and whatnot. Thank you all for your suggestions and help, however. I appreciate it!

    You can try these: https://www.sharecg.com/v/77514/view/5/3D-Model/Ankle-Socks-for-Genesis-1-DS-and-Poser

Load with G8M selected, chose Genesis + None.  White material applied, it's a 3DL material but I didn't make any changes to it.. you might need to make the diffuse color a little darker if they're rendering too bright in Iray.. also, the displacement map is basically useless in Iray, you can take it out of you want but I didn't for this render, it's completely out of the box save for changing the diffuse color to 170/170/170.  Only warning is to avoid bending the seperate toes too much, "Left Toes" and "Right Toes" work fine, but like don't bend just the big toes, DS doesn't know how to deal with them when you switch generations like that.

Nevermind...  too tall for your needs I see.

Okay, same socks..  "Ribbing" material zone made invisible, displacement map removed, and "Expand All" morph dialed to -15 to get them a little more snug along the top (will get a little poke-through until you let go of the dial).

Might still be too high for your needs and doesn't have the finished edge, but might work in a pinch. /shrug
