Agreed. As a hairdresser I wanted to like the Lauren hair but man that bang... sorry no bang is pulled over like that and then a wave follows, it's not only impossible from a stylist standpoint but it's kinda ugly. PropsC was great in her day but her hairs are far and few between standing up to other similar releases and this one, while the base "clay render" shows it to be not a bad model but the texturing is horrid in my book and the transmap needs to be revamped, ALLOT!
As for Penny... Come on DAZ, really? Her shape is easily created with a few dial spins. Some of the clothing is nice. I see the PC finally got an outfit for Genesis 8. Lacking ALLOT of detail but that's to be expected I guess, guys always get thrown a bone! *gnaws and drags bone into cart along with the texture expansion"
More like Jennifer Garner to me!
I think she's fantastic! I love her bundle items the best of anything for the females that has came out this generation. It's full of items I'll use on a regular basis. I might actually like her bundle better than anything for Genesis 3 Females. I'm so excited, she makes me feel like she was made for me. :) Also the base character is pretty, yeah it'd be nice to have Bethany or a more unique looking character, but I still like her.
I too thought "I can see the Lauren Bacall influence," but if this were going to be a themed character, I wish they'd gone a bit farther with it.
Her face may say "early 20th century starlet" but she's still got the "no body fat whatsoever thanks to my demonic personal trainer and my daily meal of lettuce leaf and Diet Coke" body. Women at that time did NOT have bodies like that! They were far less toned, far less skinny, far more natural. It would have been nice to see something more along those lines. And given that it seems she's supposed to be a bit older, a few lines around the eyes wouldn't have gone amiss.
And +1 for the "where are the characters of color?" comments. Srsly.
If you're going to go Hollywood starlet, go with someone like Liz Taylor or, better yet, Vivien Leigh. She looks more like Scarlet Johansson in profile.
I definitely don't think she's fat, but....*yawn*
Laurie
I don't even care about Plain Penny anymore, I just want her accessories, I might get her because I like the add on characters a bit but the hair and wardrobe does not move me much.
she reminds me of a younger Alexandra 8. maybe its her eyes or something
Tempting with the two free pro bundles but I don't think I can justify another $50 right now.
I don't agree but it is not hard to see where they got the inspiration from for the Lauren hair.
I think for me I’d like a more classic curvy retro style. I personally love vintage actors and pinup style but....she’s just not classic enough looking to me. Her makeup is modern her clothing could fit any era. This character is not really base-worthy. She seems kinda.... generic.
that said I’d love a vintage actor male bundle. But we probably won’t see that.
Nah . . . I think she's closer to Eva Green. :-)
Exactly why I have the pro bundle in my shopping cart right now.
Penny 8 - No Post Work (except to add the names). I used the Ultra Genesis Studio for lighting and background color.
I see some Nicole Kidman likeless in some of the promos.

Yeah, I thought they'd finally figured out how to handle the promotional bundle situation with Edward and Alexandra, offering a selection of non-pro, non-base figure bundles as options for those of us who actually buy the new figures when they come out. As it is, I'm being offered three bundles, one of which (Gia 7) I actually already own everything in, so I could get a bundle in which I own all but 2 items (Gia 6) and an item in which I own all but four items (Lilith 7.) That's not as much as an incentive as it could be given that I'm definitely in the camp that thinks that the hair options in the Penny Bundle are really poor choices. Given the "vintage" idea of the clothing and that one of the outfits is a literal steal from Breakfast At Tiffany's, this was really the ideal time to do some nice period updos rather than yet another generic bob and sidesweep.
I don't know. She's cheap, I like the clothing and the base figure and two included characters don't suck, but I'm inclined to wait and see if they add on some more promo bundle options tomorrow.
Penny herself reminds me a lot of Victoria, and neither base appeals to me at all. However, the Sophia add-on is ethnically ambiguous and could go a lot of different ways with hairstyles, mixing morphs, and a little post work. She's the kind of thing I'm interested in seeing more of. Elaina's different too, and different is good. I hope more (HD) add-ons for Penny come out, broadening her range of photorealistic skin tones and ethnicities.
I'm going to go against the trend and say I really like her! As soon as I saw the cover shots, I could instantly find a use for her in my runtime. The bundles do nothing for me as I'm a post-apoc/sci-fi girl, but the figure herself looks like something I can get a lot of use out of as an addition to my gene pool.
It's a copy of the iconic dress Audrey Hepburn wore in Breakfast at Tiffany's. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Givenchy_dress_of_Audrey_Hepburn I agree that it looks like leather in the promos, but I think it's actually supposed to duplicate the italian satin of the original.
She looks like Kate Beckinsale to me. Leaning toward her but not a large bundle. Taxes next week.
Look at the close-up of her face. Zoom in. Her cheeks have the same bumps as her forehead...and her nose...and her eyes...and her chin. There is literally no variation whatsoever in her skin. That's why she looks so fake. The super high translucency turns her promos into wax figures. You can turn down the translucency, but you are not going to be able to overcome the skin maps. Diva's renders look 1000 times better than the promos, but the lack of skin detail still hurts them. They only work because they are far enough away from the camera to hide some of that missing detail.
Hollywood starlet? Sure, but does that mean she still must be white? This is boring. Not even an add on has color this time. If Daz insists on pushing nothing but white females, they at least need to do something special with them. I'm just not seeing the quality in this one.
The name of the dress is most certainly linked to the fact that it's obviously inspired by the one Audrey Hepburn was wearing in "Breakfast at Tiffany's" ;)
(It would be black satin, not leather)
So, Penny seems to be a "vintage" theme character. Not too bad, I suppose. Hopefully she gets a vintage gentleman for her to "cut a rug" with. ;P
e.g. Cary 8?
Their bent arms look strange
With the right wardrobe, Edward 8 can fill that role. I would much prefer a bushy-eyebrowed mustachioed Groucho 8
The promos reminded me of someone but I couldn't put my finger on it. Your render made it click in my head. I think she strongly resembles Kate Beckinsale.
I thought the idea behind base characters was to have a male and female of each general ethnic / age / toon / faerie type with skin and body, to build from, rather than each one being a singular personality. It does surprise me that so far, there have been so many similar redundant releases for base characters. I like some of them. But, I agree that they aren't all bringing a lot of additional tools to the table.
I'd like to see a base Asian female and male that have body morphs of broadly average size for that ethnic group, maybe including morphs that have proportions that represent the various large populations; Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese, Filipino...etc. I realize that each individual is different. But, there are at least some generalities that could be represented.
I'd like to see the same for Hispanic / South American people as well. Particularly, Mexican / Mayan males have a more round or boxy face and square body frame than the usual male model types represented on Daz.
If we're going to have more "white" girls, how about a slender, Russian girl with very pale skin, or a round faced Polish girl, or a dark eyed French girl with a nose bump?
I'd love to see some Arabic / Indian / Turkish girls that really look the part instead of another supermodel with a tan.
Rudolph Valentino or bust.
And while I'm asking for pies in the sky.... Can we get some of his costumes from The Young Rajah?
:)
