Medieval Fantasy Village vs Medieval Docks

Medieval Fantasy Village vs Medieval Docks. I need one of them (at least). I need one of them _today_. I am interested in a comparison between them in terms of usability and flexibility, and in top-down renders of the entire piece. I’m looking for something I can use over and over again as multiple parts (via angles) of the same fantasy city.
ETA: I'm actually willing to buy both if they're both worthy and distinct enough. What I don't want to do is buy one and then discover it's Much Smaller Than Expected, Much Less Flexible Than Hoped, or Somehow Broken. I can return it, of course... but I really do need it today.

The biggest difference looks to be that the village is one complete mesh whereas the docks has seperate parts
I saw the 'complete mesh' thing, yeah. My worry with the docks is that it's all facade, since there's no strong sense of the whole. If there's basically only three working angles in the set, it's not great for me (although might still be worth it at $12).
Heres a rear view (with a really bad iray conversion). It has all 4 sides.
Does there need to be a lot of Iray converting? Hmmm. I was kind of hoping most of the mats would autoconvert well. Thanks for the rear view though. Very helpful. I'm also sifting through forum posts/gallery posts.
All I did was apply uber to everything. If you want to get a better conversion, there is a ton of surfaces youre going to have to work with.
I wrote a review of the Medieval Village a while back, maybe it can be helpful.

Thanks, that's extremely useful.
the docks. and it's versatile.
I used Medieval Fantasy Village here:
Here's another image I did with it:
As SnowSultan's review mentions, there are some issues but you can get some good scenes. You can also hide items using the geometry editor although it's a bit of work to select all the relevant polygons.
might want to take a look at this set, too: https://www.daz3d.com/yvoire

As soon as MICK GOTHIC releases and Faveral's entire backlist goes on sale, I will be (probably) buying a number of items there. But it was Medieval Village and Medieval Docks that I could get today for 66% off.
I have them both But personally I really use the Medieval city constructions set more than anything. and its easy to comvert to iray and yo can arrange the village setting anyway you like
heres a animation using the them
There's one big problem with most of these "medieval" sets - the wooden structures of the houses are too smooth, too straight. Real medival houses show irregular wooden beams, as most people didn't have the money to buy straight beams only and used whatever they could afford. And besides, wood does work and bend with aging.
Most of it's too clean too ;). I'd love to see some dirt once in awhile...lol. I do use "Touch of Dirt" for Iray a lot, but since it creates geoshells, it can bog a scene down a little bit in some cases.

In my case, this is a highly magical fantasy setting, so I'm totes ok with them looking like modern replicas of actual ye-olde-style buildings. If I need stuff that looks like it's barely holding together there's DzFire's Forsaken Village and a whole bunch of stuff on YeOthereSite from some guy who does terrible promo renders but top-notch work.
Who's the vendor on the other site, want to check out his store
Dante78 perhaps. I've bought a ton of his things.
Dante78. Fo some reason the promos are all done in uniform shades of brown. But they have better textures than they seem, and a surprising amount of flexibility, including static animal props. The more recent ones come with interiors, too. All very rough stuff setting-wise, has a very authentic squalor/old school feel.
I've noticed that also. The older sets had great textures, but the newer ones all seem to share a single brown texture. Good to know that it's the promotional images more than the sets themselves.
It may be more of a lighting thing than a texture thing. Here's the Lumbermill under Flipmode's Easy Environment Witchcraft Eclipse sky (sold here! Flipmode HDRIs remain my favorite.)

the two Dante sets I have look quite nice in iray, I just tried
yeah dunno what is with the brown shaded promos
wow, those are nothing like the promo images.
Th3digit, is that the training yard set?
yes
Did someone say Dante78? Medievel Small Castle and Medievel Small Market 2. What I like about Dante78's products is that they are very easy on the system, they come with alot of props and they look really fun. I didnt remove or hide a single prop from either these large sets and they rendered with no problems and quickly.
Dante is a really nice vendor and actually listens to suggestions for products (I think he made one set based on a suggestion I made). His stuff isn't quite as flexible as some of Faveral's material-wise, but they do render quickly, are extremely detailed (even more than Faveral's, surprisingly), and very affordable.
That looks great! Very real.
Thanks, that is who I thought of when you posted. I have several of their sets and the promos never show their potential!
His products say poser only, they don't say Daz. Are they easy to get into and use in DS?
the most common reason a vendor says poser only is they don't use or have experience with Daz Studio. Most poser only things work in DS with poser specific shaders being the exception, but very few products use them and you can always replace most of them with Iray shaders. With dante78 products, turn down the specular and change the color in the diffuse channel to white and it looks like this image in iray
Thanks @FMSCdesigns. I take it I have to import the items rather than grabbing them from the ds library?
