Do G, G2 character skins fit G3 or G8? or even us V4/M4?

davesodaveso Posts: 6,998

i tried searching but all kinds of unrelated comes up or so much all over the place.

SO i would like to use G or G2 textures on G3 or G8?
or even M4/V4 on the Genesis figures.

There are so many options, I get way lost in trying to figure all this out.
It would be good to have one post that lists all the options we need ..or do we even need any other options that what is alread in DS 4.10?

All of what you have asked for is possible, but you need various products to do it, check out this thread:

A lot of people have had very good results from the geograft patches by Cayman Studios. Others have had good results from TextureTransformer by Blacksmith3D.

The Cayman Studios patches are probably easier to work with. You may find yourself locked out of a few of the unique UVs that DAZ lumbered us with for each new character base, but anything made for the generations base model, or the Victoria or Michael of that generation out to be accessible. The vendor does have patches for quite a lot of the other character bases as well, but not all of them.

I wasn't able to get the patches and the main skin to render the same, regardless of what I did, but I know that other people have managed to make it work, there have been posts using this utility all over the forums.

It's worth it if you want to still use your old stuff. Here is a V4 character SV7 Moon converted to G2 using GenX and this product https://www.daz3d.com/v4-skins-batch-converter-to-genesis-2-female-s

I have these and I love them:

I also have two of his from Rendo that is the one that lets you use V4 textures on G3F characters and the one that lets you use G2F textures on G3F.

I also have two of his other Legacy UV products for the men-folk. lol I'm slowly acquiring all of CaymanStudios' products. They're great, imo! :)

Here's a quick render of the V4 Angel textures (adjusted with Altern8 gen shaders) on G8F with CaymanStudios' Legacy UVs.

I LOVE that we have products that let us use V4 textures on G8F - that's awesome. I definitely recommend CaymanStudios' stuff if you're interested in using the older generation's textures on the newer figures. :)

I am just the opposite. I was thrilled to see the cayman products to let me use the V4 skins on G3 since I had so many great ones and plenty of V4 ones I had customized. BUT, after using them on G3, they just didn't hold up to the great G3 native sets I was using. They lacked the special Iray shaders that made the G3 ones stand out and many of them used the old techniques of burning the shadows and details into the texture, something you don't need with Iray. I tried a few of the Iray skin plugins like anagenesis 2 and such, but I finally got to the point that it was time to move on.

i also encountered a few issues using the cayman geografts on some GenX morphs and it became tedious having to reload each time. I still use the G3 to G2 one all the time as I have some great G2 characaters I put together and with G3 skins on them, they are awesome.

This is my first attempt using their V4 to G8 with Maeve on V8's body. So I would think there's still some life left in the old girl.
