    Gemini,

Do you have Carrara? I've been successful making a Nick Fury hairstyle by 3D painting or adding a new shading domain. I don't rememebr which.  I can check when I get back to my home computer. I'll post a picture too.

I do have Carrara but have like 0 experience using it so far.  LOL

Let me see how I did it and I'll try to walk you through it. I think it was very easy.

So can anyone point me in the right direction on a proper Reed Richards hairstyle.  Grey on the sides and brown on top.  I have tried combining hairstyles to ill effects at this point.  Is there no hair style on DAZ store that has greying sides as material option?

I cheated on mine. I used Executive hair in a brown color then added Ricardo hair (which is bald on top essentially) and made it grey. I used morphs to pull the temples back on the executive hair and viola, greying at the temples. :) I often use two or more sets of hair for the right effect. :)

I don't see Executive hair anywhere.  Is that on DAZ?  Ricardo...20 bucks.  Yikes.

    Gemini,

Here's a picture of my Nick Fury render. Getting the grey on the sides was very easy in Carrara. I don't use Studio, but maybe it can be done there too. I used Timeless Male Hair (https://www.daz3d.com/timeless-male-hair), but this would work with any heair. Here are the steps.

    1. Double click the hair to enter the Model Room.

    2. Create a new shading domain by selecting the grey hairs with the paint selection tool (highlighted in blue on the left in the screen shot). Pull down the shading domain menu and select  "New Shading Domain" (highlighted in red on the right).

    3. Go back to the Assembly room. Select the hair and the Shader tab (highlighted in blue). The new shading domains will appear at the end of the list (highlighted in red).

    4. Double click the shading domain to enter the Shading Room. I used the same bump and transpareny maps from the rest of the hair and modified the color texture in Photoshop to make it grey.

    Good luck.

I think I might be able to use the geometry editor and select pieces of hair like that in Studio.  Here's a sample I did using two sets of the same hair but hiding sections with opacity.

Gemeni-Executive Hair is from... the "other" place. :) But it is Redz studio so high quality for sure.

Ok.  So here is another attempt with a different hair style.

Don't knock Teen Titans Go! They gave us this:

Seriously, I really, really liked the first Teen Titans show, as well as Young Justice, but as someone who can remember the only superhero stuff that was on being the live action Spiderman, and occasionally Spiderman on PBS...I enjoy all forms and flavors of comic television. I am thankful for all of it. Great work in this thread, by the way. I have long dreamed of a modular superhero suit system for Daz.

And here is a full costume shot.  I think this is close but not perfect.

Haha I immediately started looking for one. I'm trying to learn ZBrush so maybe that would be a good modeling project!

The only one I've seen that has a texture like that is Scott Hair. But it's a bit too spiky on top for Reed. I think It has morphs to change the style a little though.

There has been a general shift away from "straight" action/adventure cartoons on CN and the current "powers that be" seem to favor the 11 minute format which, normally, does not allow for drama or character development.  Even "Justice League Action", which was seemingly tailored the curreny environment (11 minutes, more light hearted) has not aired for a couple of months.

I loved all 52 episodes of Justice League Action, as well as all of the "shorts" on Youtube.  It sure looks cancelled, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. While I would prefer a 22-minute cartoon instead, I was amazed at how much actual story they managed to fit into each episode. I think they did show bits of character development throughout the series, but I don't think that really needs to be a focus for a cartoon. In a movie, or a novel, sure, but in episodic cartoons? I mean, 80 years of Superman stories, how much character development should I be expecting? That said, I was even more amazed at how much story and -- believe it or not -- character development was done with the three-minute shorts. The first Youtube episode, for example, has Batman and Wonder Woman offering membership to the Atom, who doesn't feel he's up to it; a parademon attack teaches him that he does have something to contribute -- action, humor and character development all wrapped up in two minutes.

In the last 50 years, comics have moved far, far away from being entertainment for kids. When I was a lad (cue nostalgic background music) I enjoyed reading the adventures of four-colour super-heroes and often imagined what it woudl be like. Nowadays, a kid opening your average comic is often hit with a hero who's married/divorced and has kids the age of the reader. The last thing I wanted when I was that young was to have my hero having marital issues.

In that vein, I finally had a few days off of work and figured I'd put together a few of my favourite teen group, the Legion of Super-Heroes, but back when they were, well, teens. Young teens. I read recently that the original Colossal Boy is pegged to be about 37 years old now. sad

I've kitbashed it pretty quickly, but I've kept mostly to original costumes (though I've left off some of the parts that don't work as well for me, like shoulder braids and fins). I've added leggings to one or two of the females, and in a few instances used newer versions of their outfits to be either less sexist or less bland. I've tried to keep the characters younger and opted for toonier, less realistic, the kind of look I'd love to see in a show like "Legion of Super-Heroes Action." wink

    Maybe https://www.daz3d.com/mature-mark-hair ?

The promo image with the different colors included shows one that looks black with light gray at the temples.

    * Ok, so first off, how does everyone get their images to display inline with the post.  When I attach images they end up as just clickable thumbnails in bottom of the post.

Yeah, Scott hair definitely wouldn't look like a classic Reed.  Workable I suppose once you have the costume but not really what I am after.

This is the closest I have gotten so far using what I have in my library.  This is Matthew Hair for the grey and Commander Hair for the brown.  I am still struggling to ge the color just right though.

You have to make your post with the pic attached. Then click on the post so it enlarges and shows in a new window, copy the URL address, then edit your original post and place the pic inside the post as a displayable pic with the URL address you just copied.

Nope, this is the first 20 Legionnaires; he comes in a few years later (and was one of my favourites). I’ll be doing the next wave (and updated costumes) the next time I have a few days off.

    Thanks for commenting, much appreciated.

Question, the 2nd skin textures by  hiram67do they require a product called 2nd skin or do you apply the textures to the model's skin?

  • BrianP21361BrianP21361 Posts: 814

I don't use hiram67's textures, but I would apply them to the figure. 2nd skin consists of custom morphs, normal maps and textures to give the illusion of a bodysuit.

  • RedfernRedfern Posts: 1,629

I can't vouch for all his items, but it looks like many of them are applied directly to the figure's body.  Other texture sets are applied to or another of JoeQuick's "Golden Age" collection.

    Sincerely,

    Bill

OK, cool, thanks all.  I want to try a few of them.  I used 1 of his Wolverine textures for the M4 bodysuit, but I modified it.  Some of this stuff looks good.  I got hit by a huge tax bill this year, so I'm going to be slumming free stuff and trying to create my own for a few months. sadcrying
