I've had all I want of V4 stuff for 10 years already. LOL
Laurie
We keep hearing this all the time: "Men clothes do not sell"
Well duh, it do not sell because it's not there! We cannot buy what does not exist!
There are sooo many genres of male clothes which do not exist or which there's very very little of, and which I'd gladly pay up good money for. For instance I', having Beast HD in the cart now and unsure whether to buy him or not, because he has absolutely NOTHING to put on. Why not a leather coat, a heavy pair of boots, a top, a sci-fi outfit, a biker outfit, a wrestler outfit.... I mean, I cannot fit V8 clothes on him the way I do with M8 these days, because I think they would look all distorted.
Among the things I want to see for the men:
* Classic Asian outfits (Chinese and Japanese)
* Goth, metal and biker outfits - you know leather stuff, studs, assymetric tops and so on
* Scifi outfits which are NOT space or eva suits, something like the PEI outfit for the men would be glorious
* Outfits from the barocq era, like the things old kings wore. I have tonnes of women's clothes from that era but almost nothing for the men
* Dress uniforms for the decorated generals
* Steampunk outfits
* Cyberpunk outfits
* Dandy outfits
* Elf outfits as in LOTR for instance
* D-formed cloaks and robes for wizars, vampires, knights, archangels et cetera
Why not look in games, in movies, in music and streetwere for inspiration!
Funny, I'm not really interested in any of the items you mentioned.
Coats G8M:
Besides G8F outfits autofit very well to G8M.

True.
What is also true, and what many folks don't seem to like hearing, is that what does exist usually doesn't sell well enough.
Please read back, plus read any previous threads about 'lack of male clothing/footware'
There is a very simple and logical reason that there is less male content than female.
If you had 2 identical items, the female version would outsell the male version by a very large ratio.
even if you 'reuse' the 'mesh' of a female set, reshaping it to fit the male figure, the work involved in remaking JCM's, creating the various FBMs, fixing the rigging etc, the effort/time involved means building it from scratch is probably nearly as quick, for LESS THAN HALF of the return on time/effort invested.
It is a simple case of economics, why spend 2 weeks to over a month just to make something that actually doesn't make you any profit for your time and effort?
Simply put, i would wager you * as in anyone * would not take a job that means working 80/120 hrs for zero salary....
Perhaps DAZ should make more targeted advertising to book illustrator/cover artists? I'm pretty sure then we would have enough people buying male content. Of course we would need the classical "bodice-ripper" poses as well- and with shorter females, as most of these books feature one dominating male and a definitely more petite female.
I already suggested a solution to the "male stuff doesn't sell" problem. Don't make males. Problem solved. Daz can cut their development time in half, make twice the money selling only t&a and those of us that want male content can get another hobby.
Laurie
I’ve often felt that the one of the solutions to improving and increasing the buyer pool is to start advertising more.
I don’t know exactly what besides adverts on websites is actually done, as I haven’t seen anything... but targeting the indie publishers, comic con, and other bodies where amateur artists gather would be what I would do. It’s really not hard to get a table... have it staffed with people using the program and to offer some bling. There is also romance novel conventions as well and many indie writers buy covers made in 3d. There are also manga conventions and other types of conventions where products might be offered.
Since Studio is free, offering a deal of low cost bundle goods to beginners at these events might bring in more buyers. It would be easy enough to create a starter cd with a discount code to buy m8, v8, d8, and some bodice ripper clothing and poses.....
give the cd with studio for free, and offer a bundle to buy online. So people can try Studio for free... that sort of thing.
but to attract artist interested in illustrating men, they do need to have more male stuff that people might want to buy. We don’t have a buffer male base which I really am surprised by this generation.
plus people tend to buy stuff at conventions. So offering a convention deal would be what I would do.
but outside of that I think fostering illustration communities of people who do 3d, educational pricing at colleges and art schools, and targeting those who want to do anatomical illustration of body parts are other areas to explore. But to move beyond the ta target and reach other markets there do need to be stuff to buy the target audience is going to want. If you come to this site the perception is that it’s mostly a swimsuit and bikini model place. My impression is that the store seem sort of content with the focus as it is now.
So while it may be possible to bring in additional buyers since sex sells the current focus will likely predominate and that may turn off prospectively buyers less interested in v8 and skimpwear.
Well, I just learned that P.A. doesn't stand for Published Artist, it stands for Penny-wise Accountant. That's a joke.
Don't make males. Problem solved. Daz can cut their development time in half, make twice the money selling only t&a
Geez, that scowl of your Avatar sat perfectly with this quote. damn.
On a (more) serious note....
Honestly, it doesn't really matter HOW MUCH it sells.
No. It doesn't. If VENDORS sell 80% more skimp-clothes than male duds, it puts it on Daz to have more male clothes, because they sell males and they consider themselves some kind of store.
Stores sell things that sell less than other things.
We heard you ABUNDANTLY CLEAR ===== -->>>>> VENDORS CAN'T MAKE MALE CLOTHES.<<<< -------------
So, now stop posting in this thread and let the CUSTOMERS speak to Daz.
<< I'm only saying that to be dramatic, of course we love your input and appreciate the great efforts you make to supply us with wonderful products. So many wondrous releases that we really don't deserve. Our feeble attempts to create a pastime and enjoy the studio process is really a small thing. I do sincerely wish Stonemason, TheAntFarm...um DZFire...Fisty&Darc and and AEONSOUL infinite resources and time to create. There are so many, oh lord, so many talented vendors who pour their hearts and souls into this universe. God bless you all. Your work allows our work to exist- it would be a different experience if ANY of you were to leave. We love you and enjoy your gifts. Now please, have a Flash Sale. >>>

I'll say that again, if you pay your rent and make 3D products ( FEMALE CLOTHING) for a living by, STOP REPLYING HERE.
We get it and realize YOU cannot help us. No, really, we circumvented YOUR financial concerns several pages ago.
Daz can make stuff and Daz can afford to commission products. If you can come up with a FREE space Base and Rocket and Luggage every week, you can find a way to make some male clothes.
For those that miss points easily......IF YOU CAN AFFORD TO RUN YOUR BUSINESS AND GIVE STUFF AWAY FOR FREE EVERY WEEK, you can AFFORD TO START GIVING US WHAT WE WANT/NEED.
Which is male clothes. No offense, I don't need another hallway. I don't need a bunch of wooden chairs and I don't need another dungeon window.
(I just listed random products, if you have one of these arriving in the next week or so, I will consider your product and buy it if it fits my needs, please, carry on)
YOU release 6 different variations of the same Little House on the Prairie dress for over 3 months at $2.09 each.
You can handle a budget adjustment and make some male clothes and survive.
Pretty please. And this point kinda goes on for more than just male clothes. IF YOU ARE GIVING AWAY STUFF FOR FREE, maybe the PC+ club members should have a say in what we get for free as it is attached to the value for my membership. Let's think about that for a moment. I think it's prudent and doable.
If the free stuff is just side-collectables cause people like to horde, maybe make it something truly special (Every so often)
Perspective is an amazing thing ,is it not?
The dearth of "desirable" male content is Not a "problem" for
Daz & the PA's that needs to be "solved".
At least not from the objective perspective of somene not affected
at all, by the gender breakdown of the Daz clothing Market
It is only a problem for that dis-empowered minority of the Daz user base that prefers to render male images over female.
It is not different from any other relatively tiny commercial market
where the interest of the Majority (as defined by their buying habits) supplant the interest of the minority.
This is the natural result of freemaket economics based on Math.
I buy a ton of it, especially if it is unique, cool, sci fi, or armour (fantasy or space, don't care). $6000 worth over the 5years I have been with DAZ. Can't be the only one, but this isn't the only website producing it either.
I'd be spending more money here if the content was available. Sadly it isn't, and I have to spend elsewhere to get what I like. If DAZ could only see that their ease of installation with items can make the use of such products more enjoyable, they'd be getting even more of my money. Someone else said in the thread, nerd sweaters and the like, are not what the guys currently on sale wear, never seen a buff nerd in my life!
I picked up Japanese just to be able to read and respond to items I purchase from 3D artists from Japan. Well worth it in my opinion to get some damned cool armours and sci fi equipment.
TL;DR. Look elsewhere to spend your money, you'll find some great stores offering the content you seek.
Not saying any names, but there's no reason to be snidy.
I've studied economy too and I know the point in selling, but where I come from we have a say going - what you lose on the carousels you gain on the swings. Meaning that it's the additional things that helps you gain, and if you remove them because you're losing on them, you'll be gaining less on the more selling product too. I actually believe that with a more even selection of outfits, there be a total larger sell. How many haven't passed on a set becaus there's no corresponding one for the other (often male) gender? Or a character with no intended one? How many more would've bought Sakura if she'd had a bf? I had Sakura sitting on my wishlist for a couple of months before I removed her when I understood that she was not getting a corresponding male, and I wonder how many did the same.
In as much as that picture just made me spit soda on my monitor, I must say... G8F stuff DOES autofit nicely! Excellent!!
What I've noticed anecdotally is that male content is often priced noticeably higher than similar female content. Maybe that's just me, maybe I'm wrong, but I tend to perceive that. If prices were more in line with each other, then I tend to believe that consumers would purchase more new male content. Until then, I tend to snap up older M4 and Genesis male clothing which is often (but oddly not usually, given its relative age) on sale for far less than Genesis 3 and 8 male clothing.
Just my two cents.
Yes, I was totally surprised - even the chest/boobs area and the high heels conform a lot better than they did in previous generations, and the dForce cloak&dress Olie8 is wearing draped without issues. Whatever they did there to the mesh worked well.
It's also good to know that the G8F Pinup poses worked with just very minor adjustements for the guys.
Honestly, though, I have a 50% male cast for my comics, and , I've bought a lot of the male content items from the store, and even use some of the female clothing on the guys if it's not too strange looking for that particular character. That excludes G8 female and male characters/items, though, which I'm mostly sitting out at the moment, saving up the money for G9 that probably will come out next year. Most of what I do own for G8 is male content.
Well my problem isn't lack of male content or female content but no matter how much of the content I buy I'm always missing something needed to make a scene or that the old content won't work with the new content and still look good and fit correctly. Yes, I own a multiplicity of the 'autofit' tools & clones & morph adjustment products but it's still unsatisfatory.
What we need is a fast, reliable cloth sim enviroment & MD-like capabilities in DAZ. Will DAZ do that? Don't know, clothing & hair are big sales items.
I recently became bored with my usual "lone character" (portrait style) images and have been trying to do more dynamic/action scenes with multiple characters. I've been using primarily G3 stuff because my G8M content is still a little flimsy at present and because my GPU wouldn't swallow the hi-res images/mesh of most G8 stuff if there was anything else in the scene. However, I built my beastly new computer yesterday (WOO HOO!) and GPU memory/processing is no longer an issue. I'll definitely try some cross-figure clothing fits now!
And I'm certain there will be a G9 before we know it! (I'm definitely certain there will be a G9 before I can AFFORD it, lol!)
Not that I don't believe you, but you can send PM that link of where those stores are. I shop for male items to use for personal use and promos.. this place is IT other from the occasional products from Rendo, and it's been that way for years.
LOL sorry. I just keep getting tired of hearing “can’t be done”. If Daz would stop selling males I’d spend less than half of whatI do now, so I guess part of me wouldn’t really mind if they got rid of the males :p
But there's only one of you, so even if you buy every male item there is it's still only one sale per item. Getting more people to buy (some) male content would increase the sales per item and so make it easier for PAs to make the content.
I'd be interested too. This is the second time that the idea has been brought up in this thread that there is a store out there selling a large selection of male clothes that I'm also unaware of, seems a shame to be keeping it a secret...
I know of a site that does video game & movie stuff, but since that's kind of close to licensing issues (Star Wars, Fallout, Overwatch, etc.), it's not really the content you'd put into a bigger Daz/Poser store.
Also, it's not a ton of content... but since movies/video games have more male characters, you're naturally going to see some male stuff.
Yeah, if there's a store out there that sells male clothing and content for the most recent Daz male figures I sure don't know about it ;).
Laurie
I've only seen a few legit places and a few lone artists making stuff. I wish there were big stores... But haven't seen any.
There are a few on Pateron but the searh to find more is very difficult, and Patreon just announced a crackdown on people selling anything nude, so that will narrow the market down even furhter as most places sell images or have images of half-naked dudes wearing their clothing.
I saw one artists the other day had a great set of lifeguard clothes on patreon. But I lost the URL. It looked good too, and came with accessories. I wish Patreon search was better.
Congrats on "The Beast"! And enjoy the cross-fitting. :-)
I'm using Scene Optimizer (https://www.daz3d.com/scene-optimizer)a lot, as I have many scenes with several people in it, but even then I have to split them up into smaller groups so they fit on the card.
I usually always test female/male clothing on the opposite gender, as a good fit makes the item more versatile in use.
Yeah, when I say ‘get people to buy more male content,’ I don’t mean ‘people here should buy more.’
One on one decisions don’t matter. Unless you can convince LOTS of people to buy stuff you want, we’re stuck.
And if pas ever seem snippy, it’s because most of these threads end up vaguely accusatory of pas, and assuming they are less informed of the business they do than people who have never done it.
Male products as a whole will continue to sell less than female products for a number of reasons, beginning with the larger customer base that wants the female products. However, some of the sales numbers are skewed by the simple fact a lot more female products are available.
Using my own spending habits to illustrate:
Daz frequently puts older products on sale with deep discounts. When I peruse those categories, the first thing I do is filter for just my 500+ Wishlisted items, (using the box provided by the Daz Deals plugin,) which frequently results in 0 items listed! I untick that checkbox, and then filter by Male items. As I am an avid purchaser of male items, I frequently see only a handful of items I don't already own. But when I untick the checkbox to hide items I own, the number of items shown is frequently a small percentage of the total items in the offer.
Now because I don't buy male products exclusively, I'll then remove the filter for male items and type "N/A" in the figure filter dropdown. That will remove any figures and any figure specific products, (wardrobe, poses, hair, etc.,) leaving only products that don't have "Compatible Figures" listed. What's left are a lot of wardrobe textures, but also a lot of props and sets. (Unfortunately, it also eliminates sets that include poses for specific figures.) After I've exhausted the alternatives to female products, I'll then filter by the female products. At that point, I'm looking for things I can kitbash, and things I might be able to use with the males.
It's not that I don't use females, but that I have so many female products, (figures, wardrobe, hair, poses, props, etc.,) I don't really need any more. But if the price is ridiculously cheap and I think I might be able to use the product either through kitbashing on either male or female, or use dForce to fit to G3F/G8F, I'll go ahead and buy it.
And new release or back catalog, every time I buy something created for the females, regardless of why or who I really intend to use the product on, I've just added to the sales figures that support the evidence female products sell better.
All that said, I believe if the ratio of female to male products was 1:1 and if the quality of both was comparable, the female products would still outsell the male products. The numbers wouldn't be quite so one-sided, but the PAs would still see their efforts resulted in more money in their accounts with the female products. And I simply can't fault a PA for producing products that make them money, and not wasting their time on products that don't do as well.
>>I know of a site that does video game & movie stuff, but since that's kind of close to licensing issues (Star Wars, Fallout, Overwatch, etc.), it's not really the content you'd put into a bigger Daz/Poser store.<
I've been to that site once, and although the stuff there is cool, I am absolutely dumbfounded as to how it has not been shut down by now.
I have had a bit of success using female clothing on males, especially for fantasy scenes. Threads like this are a little weird to me (especially the ridiculousness of the original post) because I think a lot of the more popular general-use clothing for males is available in some form. Aren't you guys really asking for very specific-use male clothing that couldn't be faked with transparency maps or converted from a female version?
