Good job.  I have a speader model but it’s not that detailed.

Thanks. Say what you want about EA, but I really enjoy SW Battlefront and the models are amazing quality.

How do you use models from games?  I'm guessing you need expensive software other than DAZ?  I would love to use the models from Battlefront 1 that I have and Mass Effect.  Alas I don't have the software or knowledge.

If you have the games, there is usually a developers tool used for modding that can extract the mesh and textures legally for personal use. .FBX format usually comes out rigged and then it can be posed in a few other apps (I use Max) and then imported into DS as an .OBJ

Hey, I was just wondering what's your process once you have the model extracted from the game?

If I can get it out in .FBX format, I import into either Max or Carrara and pose it. Then export as an .OBJ and import into DS.. I could just render it in carrara or maxwell, but I like Iray and setting up materials is a bit easier in DS.

Okay, since Kyoto Kid's motorcycle image is now my new goal for fast-moving-vehicle-awesomeness, today my chore is to figure out how to re-create his method in D|S and Blender and maybe Nuke. I'm really impressed at that image. Very nice.

...thanks.  Found another one similar to it in the DazCreative Contests group over on DA.

MIne took so long most likely because the character had two instances of Bolina Bair which is heavy in transmaps and I didn't shut off raytracing as it didn't look as good without it.

I hate to ask, but is there a certain way you import into Max? I tried importing a Leia model from Battlefront, and it was a complete mess.

    ...when they "civilise" the UI.

I realize you'll never change your mind... smiley.... but it's called "Blender Sensei". Some guys went thru and re-did most of the UI to make it far more intuitive and easy to use. It's a free add-on. With a lot of tutorial videos available.

..when they adopt Andrew's UI as proposed back in 2013. then I'll give it another shot.

I tried Blender.  Yeah way to complex for me.  I might go back when I become better, over all, at 3D.

Rancor Hunt.  This is my 1st attempt using a mix of Poser 11 and Daz Studio with postwork done in Photoshop and Clip Paint Studio.  It's not much, just an attempt to learn poser.

Cool Rancor, like the image. Out of curiosity, why do you want to learn Poser? I ask as I was a long time poser user before DS and even though I have the latest Poser I never use it. And getting genesis figures to work in it is a royal pain IMO.

I like doing comic book stuff so I'm learning the basics of Poser.  Then I'm going to learn the comic book stuff.  I may end up droping it if I don't get the results I want.  I'll continue to use Daz for the realistic and semi-realistic stuff.

Also, that Rancor never worked well in DAZ.  The mouth morphs didn't transfer over and the textures didn't look as good.

Doctor Aphra.  She is a comicbook character, not from the films nor cartoons.

    Nice one 3doutlaw!

Since we on the Hoth battle bandwagon, I figure one more won't hurt. Really liked the lighting in this one. DS and only a very small bit of post.

    Awesome work there. Nice job.

Anyone know if the conversion of the VP freebies is still chugging along? I just tried the old B-Wing model (Poser format) for the first time in ages; it works and looks good, but there are missing texture files, and when I tried to convert it to weightmapping so I could save it as a proper D|S Figure Asset, the parts exploded.

  • kyoto kidkyoto kid Posts: 41,035

...I sense a distrubance in the process.

I haven't had that problem, but I've only used the model twice and it's been awhile.  I think I got secondary textures from sparkyworld.  That being said, VP is still converting assests to DAZ.  I check the site 1 or 2 times a week.

Yes, I also have the Sparkyworld textures and they're very nice indeed.

And... I just realised there's a mismatch in the spelling of the main texture filename. An unfortunately common glitch in freebies of that vintage.

  • Anyone found any good shots of the 'stock' Falcon from the Solo film? It's a bit of a spoiler if you go looking I guess, but other than the promo shots and the Lego set I haven't seen anything good and I was tempted to build something off of that idea.

Haven't looked.  I'm trying not to spoil.  That being said, the classic Falcon is all I've ever seen.  No one has done a free version, that I've seen, from after Return of the Jedi.  I wish someone would do a free version of Poe's Xwing.  You can but one on CGTrader but I's perfer free. wink

I'd gone in and swapped out the dish on it for the one from the Blockade Runner (it's pretty close to the one in The Force Awakens) to give it that look. I mostly do Star Trek stuff but I have an itch to do up my own Star Wars freighter. I do like Poe though. I'd have to see what references are out there though other than the film. I don't have the cross section book either at the moment.

I've seen a lot of images of Poe's xwing on Deviant art.  I have a few in my favorites.

Free and Very detailed, but in .LWO format so you would need to convert it. carrara can do it if you have it. I am still getting my version of it set up as it's a process getting it set up for DS, but the detail will be amazing.

PoseRay is a free application that can convert .LWO and .3DS into .OBJ format.

I'm having some issues with the textures not applying when I load the models in Daz.  Is there a manual way to load them?

  • RedfernRedfern Posts: 1,598

    Sorry, I don't know..  I'm a "dinosaur" as I still use Poser.

    Sincerely,

    Bill
