MMD clothing to DAZ

Does anyone have an idea on how to turn an MMD(Miku Miku Dance) clothing item exported as an object file, imported into DAZ as an object  and get it to fit a DAZ character? I have tried using the transfer utility but the obj comes out of MMD turned 180 degrees out on the Y axis so even if I turn it around in DAZ it goes right back to that orientation in the transfer utility. It also is scaled very small in the x axis after using the transfer utility  and does not allow for a simple upscaling of the x axis without horribly deforming it. I have not tried morph loader because the clothes were made different figures with dramatically diferent shapes. I know I am not using the right steps, could anybody suggest the correct process? Thank you so much!

We have no clones for the MMD figures, so you would probabky have to reshape it in a modeler.

So, if I used something like Virtual World Dynamics to get a perfect fit and then saved the VWD object, reimported back  into daz could I use the transfer utility to convert the object to a figure?

By the way, how do the clones work? I can get an MMD figure into DAZ as an object, could it be turned into a clone?

once you line it up reexport the object and reimport it then it will transfer in place (at least as close as you had it fitting)

No, you would need to take both the MMD figure and the Daz figure, at base resolution, into a mdoeller, reshape the Daz figure to match the MMD figure (without adding or removing any mesh, just pushing the exisiting vertices around), export just the reshaped Daz figure mesh, and load that as a new morph, thenmake soem adjustments to turn the morph into a clone.

    Thanks for the input,

I was wondering I know that Poser Pro 2016 now supports bringing in FBX files bones and all.  So can a MMD figure could be transfer via FBX into Poser with bones? Could it then be transported to DAZ via CR2?

yes, under edit rigging convert to weightmapping general and under file save as a support asset figure  to reuse in DAZ studio, I do this with Mixamo, Fuse and iClone figures via Poser.

getting an iClone Character Creator figure into DAZ studio

So it will actually be a stand alone  rigged figure not a figure with borrowed Genesis or Poser bones? Could that figure then be used with any DAZ features like aniblocks or autofit?

no as rigging does not match

you may be able to import MMD BVH motions on it though and you can pose it rotating bones

I used the transfer utility to fit that clothes to it BTW but had to import it scaled

I also have made a clone shape for my DAZ figure for iClone characters but we are not allowed to share clones of other figures, I have clones of Hivewire and other figures I made too the way Richard described, painfully shaping with soft selection and using shrinkwrap in Blender.

Actually, have you tried VWD? you can export figures or objects into VWD as cloth and use scaling inside of VWD plus subdived. If you run sims without any forces you could have a cloth figure conform to a collision firgure more or less I think. I have not tried it. You can create a lot of morphs on figures bring in as cloth though, using self collision. Gerald the creator of VWD is an absolute joy to work with too!

yes I use VWD a lot, it changes the mesh though so not suitable for morphs

Hmm, there was an individul that posted an entry in the VWD forum at Renderosity, that said he was able to export a VWD clothing obj  created in VWD as an object and apply it as a morph to the original clothing item using morph loader pro. He said the morph showed up as a diail in parameters for the original clothing. I'm not sure how morph load looks at mesh differences.

Still, I like the idea of bringing MMD characters into DAZ and Poser. MMD still has many more FX possiblities but I think Poser would give a few character manipulation tools with the ability to reshape the mesh a bit, with bones intact. How does the FBX import handle textures from MMD, with have most toon based skin?
