I was using the Iray preview and added a camera, and now the preview is black, either in camera or perspective view.
I started a new scene and am using the default render setup, and it's still black. I'm not sure what tweaked, and I need help fixing it.

Make sure your Draw Dome is turned on in environment settings
Yes, I checked that. This is what it looks like with Draw Dome ON, in Perspective View. It's like it doesn't see my character.
She's there! Honest! Here she is...
Try adding a light to the scene, or turning on the headlamp in your camera
Nope. That didn't help. I added a new camera and kept the headlamp on - no dice.
Then I added a new environment light via iRadience Light Probes, and that didn't work either.
Here's my render settings / Environment:
Ok, that's odd. Those all look to be the defaults. Have you tried moving the camera/perspecitve view to a different spot? I've seen that a couple of times when my camera accidentally gets buried in a wall just right. If that doesn't work, maybe try exiting Studio and restarting it? OOOOOH, check to make sure the "Visible In Render" option is turned on. Only way I know to find that is to select the character in parameters and search for visible
Happened to me too the other day. Tried to save the character with clothing and everything as a Scene Subset and then load it into a new scene, same problem. A new window render rendered in a second, as if there was nothing in the scene. Checked everything, all seemed normal. The only thing that worked was creating a new scene from scratch.
I have tried the new scene a couple of times, and still no luck.
Looks like I will have to open a ticket.
@dracorn - Try Window: Workspace:Select Layout. Then choose your layout. I purchased some stuff from another site the other day - and they somehow added some kind of weird locked perspective camera and it did the exact same thing to my perspective view. Selecting my layout reset this perspective camera.
Now I think about it, I recall I did a reset to default recently in order to try to fix something, and I may have been when I had this problem. Try this: Window > Style > Customize Style > Defaults > Accept
This may not be your problem because you said you tried a second camera, but this once happened to me when (somehow) the F-stop setting on my camera (with DOF enabled) got set to zero. (Default is 22, I think)
just figured I’d add it to the list of things to check for others who might come across this thread.
I had an "invisible" scene the other day. My character and everything she was wearing were there but in when I would iray preview they disappeared. I had to just scrap it and start a new scene.
I've had this happen more than once. Usually, the only fix is to scrap it and start over. Or, start deleting one thing out of the scene at a time to see if you can figure out what item is causing it. Which character are you using? And who is the vendor? The reason I ask, is because for one particular vendor, for some odd reason, the eyelashes cause this to happen. If I use the default G8F eyelashes with the character, it works fine but if I use the eyelashes that come with the character, Daz can't see anything in the scene. No idea why, support has no idea why, and I have yet to figure it out.
Had similar happened too. Allways renember, it doesn't need to be a DS problem. It could also be a pure Nvidea IRAY problem.
Which character is that? Could be interesting to test if it's a general problem.
When I have had this problem in the past, it is because I've used 3DL lights in the scene when I'm otherwise rendering in Iray.
I would be happy to PM you, I don't really want to spread the name around the forums, I love all of their characters and its a minor issue as far as I'm concerned.
Thanks for all of your suggestions!
The character is Genesis 8 Female base with lots of custom morph dials. She is wearing skin from Rumor (Rendo), with additional modifications in Photoshop. All maps have been manually loaded, and I had just been rendering her for about an hour before the problem happened. It's like something tweaked when I added the camera. There's no 3DL lights in the scene, by the way.
I can see where a camera setting could be the blame, but the Viewport renders black without a camera in Perspective mode.
I think I'm probably going to have to reset my UI. I have already taken a screenshot of Daz Studio and have backed up my Content. Since I have a ticket open, I'm going to wait on what they say before I do the reset. Maybe there's a fix that won't require me to redo all my custom UI settings.
I just ran some more experiments with other characters, and they rendered.
So I went back to my custom gal and turned off the visibility on her eyelashs - which didn't work. I deleted the lashes, and she rendered.
I was using Great Lashes for Genesis 8 Female(s) instead of the standard G8F lashes. I'll experiement a little more and either modify or close my ticket.
Thanks for the tip, Sonja! That was it.
Here she is with no lashes and no eyebrows yet, poor thing. Default lighting and a camera with the headlamp off.
Much better - added some lighting and new lashes and eyebrows.
I did some more tests with GreatLash and they worked fine with a couple of different characters. So it's not a product problem.
My only conclusion is that the lashes I was using corrupted somehow.
Have you looked in the logs? It's in "Help/Toubleshooting/View Log File". Sometimes it'll show what file it's having problems with.
I love the face morph. Care to share the settings?
Most welcome. Its a wierd random thing. I can have it render black, redo the whole scene and it will be fine. Or it won't. And even if you saved the file before you had problems, you can't go back and load it, the problem shows up again. But it doesn't always happen and its not just one vendor. So who knows....
Normally I wouldn't have a problem with that, but she is a book character, so I want to keep her unique. This is what I am willing to share:
G8F with Aurelia Head as the base.

Thanks for the info and I understand. I like the shape of her mouth, cheeks and chin more than anything, so I guess I am out of luck. The again, I don't have the rarestone morphs, so I wouldn't have been able to replicate it.
I recommend the Rarestone morphs - they are numerous and offer subtle variations that complement the standard Daz morphs and Zev0's 200 morphs.
Thanks, I put them in my wishlist. I have Pei and Miya and rarely use them, so I figured the rarestone morphs were more Anime oriented. besides, I have a ton of other morphs also, LOL
Thanks again. If you are ever so inclined to share the other morph settings, I would still be interested.

This worked for me.
