Photo Reference When Creating Head Morphs

in The Commons
Trying to create a head morph and using photos for references. I have a face on view as well as profile view. My question is, is there a way to superimpose the photos so that I can "trace" with my morphing dials? Right now I have the image to the side of Daz3d, as a reference, and itd be a lot easier if I could just trace.

You can load the image as a backdrop - but that will always be flat on to the viewer, the angle won't chnage as you move the camera. Window>Panes (Tabs)>Environment, set the type to backdrop, and use the standard image picker to load your image (click the icon to the left of the colour bar adn pick Browse).
Alternatively you can apply the images to plane primitives, which has the advatages of allowing multiple images and not always being flat on to the viewer. Use the Editor tab of the Surfaces pane (click the plane with the Surface Selection tool, then use the Diffuse colour or Base colour - depending which shader is applied - to apply the image, as above click the icon to the left of the colour picker.
I'll give that a try, thanks. Once I add as backdrop, can I set the transparency of my figure so that I can see both (object and backdrop) at the same time? As I mentioned, I am hoping to do a type of "tracing"
Not really - at the very least you would see both front and back, seni-transparent, of the mesh (as well as the eye and mouth parts), but the Texture Sahded preview does not cope well with transparent surfaces so I suspect the result would be unhelpful.
Thanks for the advice
There are separate apps that you can do this with, like PureRef.
Check this out. It's on sale now for 60% off ($6.38) with the purchase of a Debut or Still New product.
I had a free program that placed a window over other windows with adjustable opacity to display images or text but forgotten what it was called
Perhaps this might be an option for you to look at https://www.daz3d.com/facegen-artist-pro
I usually just create a primitive plane and put the photo as texture on there. I put it into the background behind the figure and then I have a nice reference. You could "cut out" the figure and create an opacity map for the head if you want to.
This is what I use and it does exactly what you are asking.
