HALO: Spartan Armor for Genesis - "Spartans never die."

I found this one today. Just Google: Spartan 1 Armor for Genesis, and you too will find it.
We now have a Masterchief for DAZ Studio.

Looks amazing.
One warning: clicking the download link on the artist's site (which you have to search a little to find) takes you to an interstitial page that offers you a big colorful 'Download' button.
Do NOT click that button. It will download something called 'Open Download Manager', which is an executable PC application.
I don't know what 'Open Download Manager' does, but at a guess it will clutter up your PC with adware or worse.
Instead, click the "Skip this Ad" button in the top right, which should start the actual download of the model.
The model seems to be packaged as a .rar file. That .rar file looks OK to me, and contains the components you'd expect - but run your virus checker over it just in case.
angusm,
Post your images when you get a render or two.
angusm, thanks for the warning, that download manager thing is new - before there were just simple downloads.
I've checked last four downloads with two antiviruses and all seems fine.
I also suggest to repack/rearchive the files right after download because they are all password protected initially.
I posted this in Knight's thread as well, re: the same thing.

The Open Download Manager button is crap and is meant to trick people into clicking it- it’s not the real download. The actual button is the “skip this ad” in the upper right, which if you hover over it, will show a dropbox download link to the associated *.rar file.
If you start using Adblock, you’ll see nothing but the “skip this ad” button and won’t be fooled. :)
This is not the first time I have seen this type of ad placement, it's been around for several years now. So I didn't think to mention it. Also, the modeler himself posted this "by the way i use a new advertising system so dont freekout when you download something and see the publicity screen just wait and skip the ad."
So I don't see why some are so surprised?
Just download and enjoy, I wouldn't have posted this if the file was full of malware,
Because not everybody reads the instructions. :P
Oh! This is from our buddies over at Freelance Comics. They have a cool range of stuff. Very nice...
The same reason there is a warning to remove the plastic wrap from microwave popcorn.
Or warnings that coffee is "hot".
Basically, most people don't have "common sense" regarding many things.
I love that sites stuff, the armors available are awesome.
The only drawback is that the zips are password protected, and i often am not online when installing.
Many i've added the password to the notes section, or rezipped without it.
Just a simple fyi
In the case of most internet adware, it's not a matter of common sense, since the ads were specifically designed to trick you into pressing the wrong button. They need to trick you because you would never knowingly agree to download a bunch of hostile crap into your computer. They use lots of visual cues, and misleading text, designed to work on a psychological level. Even the most careful and knowledgable person can get sucked in on occasion, so don't feel bad if you did.
It's sad that we need something like Adblocker, since there are many honest advertisers using banners and email, but the baddies ruin it for everyone else.
Exactly. This is why I posted a warning. I didn't intend to imply anything negative about @nDelphi, or about the creator of the product (although I wish he'd find a less sleazy download hosting service).
The ad-supported download site he used uses a dark pattern to trick the user into clicking the wrong button. As @nDelphi says, the author does warn visitors about it -- but that warning is in small text, mixed-in with other text and images, on a different page from the actual download link, in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying 'Beware of the Leopard'.
OK, that last part was a slight exaggeration, but I thought it was worth repeating the warning.
Anyway, here are a handful of renders just to show what it looks like. Two are DAZ Studio, the third was done in Reality. I tweaked the materials a bit, but didn't manage to compensate for Reality losing some texture maps on export, so he turned into a knight in shining white armor. I tried to do a Carrara test, but Carrara threw nil pointer errors when posing and then crashed during the save, so I think it might not be quite ready to work with Carrara yet.
The renders aren't very inspired, but they do show what a good job the creator did with modeling and texturing this. Thanks once again to @nDelphi for letting us know about it.

actually it is "'common sense".
In this case, the supposition is that that which ever button draws your attention first is the correct one.
the person downloading is not being active in their activity.
I personally use firefox, and in the lower left corner if you hover over a link it will show the address of that link, before you click on it.
To me this is common sense to always check the link before you click on it.
If it references something else, then what is selected, then no push the button.
Being on the internet has become so common place that people don't really actively engage in what they are doing.
We're just not trained to do so.
My fiance drives me nuts sometimes with some of the garbage ware she's installed on her laptop.
And she is, frankly 99% of the populace when it comes to computers.
As an IT geek i see it all the time, and try to train my customers to be more active in their internet activities.
It doesn't seem to get through very often.
There are many file storage sites that have this same issue of redirects(and some are big name).
If you are active and actually look at the screen as a whole and not just the shiny part, you'll not get into those kinds of problems.
Hence the lack of "common sense" when it comes to the internet.
This is part of how i can run a computer without any antivirus software, and haven't had any malware in a very long time.
But as the saying goes "common sense, isn't common"
A little late, perhaps, but I recently dug up and finished one of my test renders using this model.
Yeah, think I'll wait for someone on the official Daz store to come up with some convincing futuristic armour, rather than risk viral contamination (still waiting for something, even after all this long, but hopefully someone'll get there for Genesis or Genesis 2)... :)
Besides which, I rarely seem to have any luck with getting these things to work right unless I install stuff through the DIM thing.
You should ask for help with that, that is not a normal issue. I have a few of his models installed in my DAZ Studio Runtime (I have a separate Runtime for that), the process is the same as if I had bought stuff from Renderosity or any other vendor that uses .zip or .rar files.
Hey can anyone tell me how to actually get this working in daz? cause ive tried manually puttin the files into the folders but it hasnt worked.
Does anyone know if EvilEliot is still active and around? I used to have all of his free products for DAZ, but I had hard drive crash and lost everything. I have spent months trying to re-aquire all the third party stuff I used to have, but I can't seem to download anything from his site. After the ad popup, it goes to a dead dropbox link. I have tried contacting him via email and deviantart but no response. His email address bounced back as not found or unusable.
I would love to get all of these back so I can use again in the future.
Here was a render I did way back using his Spartan Armor.
He hasn't been active for awhile, AFAIK. However, he still has a small number of his items available for download from ShareCG:

Thanks for sharing that. Looks like Spartan Materials are there but not the actual armor for genesis. That's a shame. Anyone know what happened to EE? Hope he is ok.
