So I am having trouble achieving the light I am after using StoneMason's CryoTube. I checked the Surface settings for Ambient Strength on the Ceiling and Floor lighting but just can not the tube to light up.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

DS or Poser?
Sorry. Using DS 4.6.
the surface settings wont cast any actual lighting,it's just a fast rendering fake to give the impression of being illuminated, for the promos I added a point light to the interior.(one at the top of the tube and another at the bottom).also make sure your using the right version for the app your using
thanks

I see Stonemason beat me, lol. I was going to suggest the point lights as well (uberarea surfaces drive me nuts). So with that, here's my method to provide the 'glow' to the surface along with using point lights (it's how I got those beads on the mushrooms in my Squee image to glow as you saw on Deviantart).
Set the ambient/spec/diffuse to the same color (or play with 'em). Turn ambient/specular to 100% and the diffuse to 0%. Play with the glossiness until you get something you like. This won't actually 'light up', but it will look like it's glowing.
With these settings, you'll get the surfaces to 'glow' the color you need, but the point light will provide the actual illumination.
Hey guys,
Thank you for the great suggestions. So I have tried using point lights and linear point lights as well as playing with the diffuse to 0. What I have determined is that because I have three Cryotubes in the background of my scene, the glass seem to be the issue.
I am trying to make the cryo's glow from the inside so that the figures inside are still visible or as if the cryo's are glowing from within. Because they are in the background the floor and ceiling lighting itself is not really visible and not important.
When hiding the glass altogether I got a result that is workable for my purposes.
Any other thoughts?
looking at my promo scene I had actually used a spot light as point lights don't put out enough light for this.
so I cranked the spot light up to about 200% and used a very wide falloff, and placed it in the inside of the tube
You could use Age of Armor's Advanced Ambient Light....
These are straight out of Studio no post.
First is with cryo environment included lights only.
In the Second I added one AAL, set occlusion strength to zero, placed it in front of cryo tube. Intensity about 150 (IIrC), radius 0.9 meters and I flagged the glass and the zone immediately around the glass and told the light to light these zones only.
Interesting effect. I haven't experimented with AoA's AAL much yet. Can't really wrap my head around alot of the features, so gonna need to do some trial and error on it. For this particular instance I my current method works for the purpose of this scene but I will definitely look into a lot of these suggestions previously provided.
Thank you to everyone that has provided their input! I really appreciate it.
You could also apply the ubeArea light to the tubes, though it can be tricky to eliminate graininess (especially if it's the main source of light in the scene).
So here is how this new one turned out. Would love to know your thoughts. I think I will post this over at Stonemason Appreciation Thread as well.
Thanks
That turned out really nice. Looks like it could be promo art for a new Halo.
Also, is that a group of Zorns I see? ;)
Wow! Thanks for the kind words!
Yeah, so the image uses Stefan's Cryo Environment, Spartan Armor by EvilEliot, and Zorn by The AntFarm. I designed the HUD myself so it isn't accurate to the games.
Good job on that hud, and it's a whole lot quieter without Cortana yapping in my ear. :P
I know it is a bit late but Area Light Discs would have worked well for the inside of the tubes. You can completely hide the area dics with them still emittng light. This may help using Area lights http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/14536/
Hey thanks for that. I will look into this for a future project. Too much work already went into this one to go back and retool now. lol
Yeah I am a Uber lighting junkie and hope to share my joy with others.
Wow. The lighting really turned out great. I love the video screen up front which gives the viewer the sense that there's a larger story going on.

Thanks for the great feedback! Yeah the scope on the gun in the foreground was a bit difficult to do. I was more concerned with composition of the overall scene rather than accuracy of the placement of the rifle. Because of the camera angle, I had to do some trickery to achieve that. Had I positioned the other Spartan and his rifle accurately in 3D space, you would not be able to see the screen on the rifle properly in the foreground. Thus it is probably the one major flaw in terms of perspective but it gave me the composition I was after.
Overall I am happy with how this one turned out.
Now that you mention it....I wonder where I could find a good Cortana skin texture. Could be some more interesting stuff I could make with Spartan and her down the road.
Look up Alfaseed's INKs: From the Stars product at RDNA. Just may do the trick. ;)
