Is there an older but free version of marvelous designer

Is there an older but free version of marvelous designer?  If not, what are the limitations of the 30 day trial? I notice the 50 dollar a month subscription fee.  Is there a commitment or contract with that?  I know with adobe, one has to sign up for a year contract or something like that.

If the 50 a month is not a contract (aka can be stopped with no penalty if funds are scarce or something happens to computer or etc), can I use the creations I create in a commercial setting such as Daz3D or Renderosity? If I cannot use to make my own outfits for Daz characters or Poser figures or any custom figure and the redistribution is non existent or limited, I am afraid it is too expensive for me.

Is there any other software or something similar out there?  I think I saw via YouTube searches a blender plugin, but it is not free and from my little searching I found no demo.

Okay so my choices is 50 a month or but the full version right out?  Or not use it?

  • Houdini 17 added tools for an MD-like workflow.  There is tutorial here.  Houdini Apprentice is free for non-commercial use and Houdini Indie is a cheaper option that allows limited commercial use.

From what I see right now you can get a perpetual license for $240. That is less than 5 months subscription costs and might be a better bargain

You can just pay $50 and use it for a month, with no obligation to pay and use it the following month. You lose nothing by skipping a month or more and can sell what you made during the month (or months) that you used it. I'm saving my pennies now to buy the full version before their sale ends, but I've bought the odd month of usage here and there a few times now.

That sounds good. I'm much rather see if I actually can make good use of it for a month & then buy it next time it's on sale.

True but there is no month to month option without contract, right?

There is a 30 day free trial version, but I don't know if it has limitations.

  • The 30 day trial is a full version of MD and I'd recommend checking it out to see how you like it. Perpetual version is $240 right now and that can save you few months of subscription cost.

Another option is a steam version which is currently $340 but during Steam summer sale which is in few months you can sometimes find it at 50% off. This is the version I currently use, you can use this version to freelance.

That sale ends today but I doubt I can get any funds for it until my tax refund comes in.  Bummer.

Okay.  I am trying to decide so please help me.  If I get Marvelous Designer, which version should I get?  My desire is to use it to aid in creating clothing for sale which the items would be sold at Renderosity or here. Um actually looking at the prices, I think I can get the annual personal subscription as long as I can use it to create clothing I can sell at Rendo or here instead of just doing freebies.  I might be able to swing $300 from my tax refund, but I will not do anything more than that.  That is the max I am willing to spend when my tax refund comes in for this software.  I know I also need to renew Office too which is due soon.

True that there is the summer sale but I am not sure if I can afford it then and would like to start using it for commercial usage as soon as my tax refund comes in.

Oh how do I import figures like Genesis 8 into Marvolous designer?

I got the demo open right now. I am going to use it to make sure it is the right fit for me.  So far I like what I see, but I want to make sure if I get the personal version I am able to sell what I make?

Yes you need to use it as much as you can during your demo period, as it is not a program for the faint hearted, it takes time to get the best from it.

Okay but first I need to figure out how to export Genesis 8 to use in the program.  Actually right now I need to get ready for bed.

  • Load Genesis 8 in Daz > click on the figure > lower the subdivision to lowerst one > File (top left corner) > Export in drop down menu > it will ask where you want to save the file and save it as .obj

Open MD > File > Import > OBJ> click on file > once you do that it will give you more options, you want Load as Avatar, and in Scale make sure is cmm - Daz Studio
