Teeth Jacked Up When Dialing In Morph

See the pic below. I added a custom morph via the morph loader and it works well for the shape.  But the teeth, the teeth!  She could eat an ear of corn through a picket fence!

I recall for distorted eyes there was a method of using the gemety tool to select faces and do something, then favorite it and then pick something that removes morph from favorites.  Or something like that.  But I can't remember any of the details!  Can anyone point me in the right direction?  Thanks!

  • That's a typical effect of using divisions in ZBrush when sculpting the morph. Is it one you made yourself, or from a freebie someone elese made?

Did you try applying SubD? sometimes thats works for smoothing things out

Go to - Edit  - scroll down to > figure - The to > Geometry> Convert to SubD

See if that might help :)

  • This has worked on teeth (& eyes) for me

    Favorite your custom morph
Use Geometry Editor & choose selection type Vertex
Geometry Selection - Select by Surfaces (Teeth)
Use Morph Editor to clear selected deltas from favorite

Depending on the morph the teeth may still look odd so you can try also selecting other parts of the mouth area and doing the same thing until it looks acceptable

I recall having something similar happen a few years ago when I was first learning how to do morphs - if you have "Mouth Realism HD" dialled in when you export Genesis 3 Female as an OBJ for morphing you get weird effects with the teeth (if I remember correctly). Perhaps that's the issue here. If it's a morph you made yourself make sure you have "Mouth Realism HD" and "Navel" dialled to zero before exporting (again, if I remember correctly - but that was a few years ago so... yeah lol).

As for how to fix the teeth after the fact - if you have X-Morphs I believe you might be able to edit out the teeth from the morph and resave it.

It was a combo of morphs that I moved from G3F to G8F.  Everything worked out okay, I did use zbrush only for some smoothing on the shoulders but turning that morph down to zero didn't fix anything.  No other zbrush used. (by me, maybe the original sellers of the various characters I combined did though).

SubD is on.  Severe dental distress remains.

Oooh, that could be something to try.  Bummer if that's the case because I'll have to redo the whole thing.

The thing is, there is a technique (which I've used!) that someone put out for fixing warped eyes due to facegen or something that worked great to back a morph out of a specific set of geometry.  you picked the offending morph and made it a favorite, then  used the geomettry editor to select a set of face groups or facets or something like that and you could then somehow remove favorited morphs from selected geometry.  It was perfect for fixing jacked up eyes, should be great here too.   I wish I could remember how to do it!

If I figure it out I'll post the solution here, for my reference and anyone else's who cares to bookmark it.

Yeah, when exporting the figure make sure you check the Shaping Tab and click on Currently Used- then make sure you dial out anything that isn't the morph you want. :)

And yeah, I believe X-Morphs can edit out certain bones as well, if you have that.

Are you sure that the method you remember is not the one I posted above?

This question is quiet common. I once struggled with the method watch the video that explaines it very well.

just know that removing the deltas from favorites a la Xenic's technique works perfectly, but will not clean up any HD level of morph.
the only way to fix the teeth at the HD level is in ZBrush.

Thank you, bookmarking all of those links so I never have to ask this question again!

Her treatments at the orthodontist worked out pretty well, she has her smile back!  Thanks all!
