yes, it's fine for personal use. there is a plugin in the store that works with a printing company. This thread might be of use to you https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/283036/gameprint-we-are-still-here/p1

    Hi,

Thanks so much for your quick response.

I have a G3 character at the printer now. It has clothing but the clothing is printing hollow without the character.

Do you have a link to the plugin or any advice?

  • I had the same problem but I think I've fixed it. When you save the character, or more precisely when you export it to a printable file format within Daz Studio like an OBJ file, make sure to click and select every item in the scene - character, clothes, hair, shoes, whatever. Select it all, then export. When you then click on the saved OBJ file and open it in an OBJ friendly graphics or CAD program, everything should show up. The big problem is scaling everything and getting a commercial print house to print it. When I've tried to upload characters to Shapeways, for example, the OBJ file is so huge that it invariably gets rejected, but at least I know it's there and complete. I'm still working on simplifying the resulting mesh and scaling to 1/72nd for some personal models. I'm hardly a pro at this, so I'm sure I'm making errors and adding time and complexity to what should be a much simpler process.

Anyway, give it a go and please tell us how it works out for you.

Silly question, but has anybody figured out how to prep Genesis 8 to 3d print WITHOUT the 3rd party plugin?

I have done a simple pose with G8F on my Anycubic Photon. The resulting figure was 90mm high.

Posed G8F, exported as OBJ. In a modeller I wrote myself, I thickened clothing from a single surface to a solid. Hair seemed mostly OK as the voxels identified by the slicer held together without the need to thicken the surfaces (a relief as my home written modeller struggles with an extra half million facets). Then exported to STL, and imported it into the Photon slicer. With the Photon, I had no need to fatten fingers or anything like that, the resolution is good enough to make them OK.

My biggest problem is that I have developed an allergy to the resin (cured or liquid) and can't have it in the house any more. Which is VERY frustrating.

    Regards,

    Richard

I've got an Elegoo Mars myself, and want to try all this out... I was following along until you said  "In a modeller I wrote myself..."  haha

Do you somehow need to merge the eyeballs to the body?  I was under the impression they'd fall out

  • The eyeballs will be close enough to merge during the overcure that happens. I consistently got 0.2mm overcure, and that's enough to join many loose voxels.

As for writing my own modeller.. I started it in 2004 as a stress modeller for my work, and for about 3 years most of my income came as a result of having it, and being able to get jobs done quicker and cheaper despite having a higher than average hourly rate. As time went on, I have incrementally added texture mapping and other little routines - nothing that Blender can't do, but my PC's anti virus won't let me run Blender due to the script capability. So, I am stuck having to DIY it.

    Regards,

    Richard.
