DeviantArt Alternatives for Mature Content?

I specialize in creating horror-themed art for adults.  Are there any third-party alternatives to DeviantArt where I can host my work that don't presume prospective members are mainstream artists looking for job opportunities?

...I've been looking for the opposite to host images of my story characters and scenes. Not been very pleased with DA either.

You might check out slushe, it's a new forum by the team behind affect3dx. Very, very nsfw

    Have you checked into Artstation.com?

Thanks.  Just checked their site rules and they don't allow fantasy snuff, gore, or extreme violence.

I tried Artstation.  Their registration process and profile form are geared toward artists looking for work.  For example, one of the requisite fields asks for a list of professional skills.

Me too, sadly.  I looked all day today and found nothing useful.  Looks like I'll have to buid my own.  :/

...I did too and found the same situation that Nyghtfall did.  Not really looking for employment which seems to be a major focus there (doesn't mean I won't do a commission now and then).

Also it seems to be geared more towards those who create all their work from scratch using professional grade software. Some really nice stuff, there but way out of my league.

Really don't like the galleries here as in a way they, are like DA as stuff gets buried so quickly with all the submissions. I really miss the old galleries we once had where you had to submit your best.

I know a few people that put their "not safe for dA" stuff on personal sites. :)

...sadly my stuff is very SFW, just that I hate seeing it among collections of NSFW art.

I don't have the budget to build or maintain a server 24/7.  I don't even know how to build a Net site (which likely means going back to writing code which I abandoned twenty five years ago due to the stress involved) and am unable to pay someone to do it for me.

Thankfully, you don't need either.  I use Dreamhost for my 3D art board and am going to build my personal site there using WordPress which doesn't require coding.  I configured the domain about 10 minutes ago and it's already live.  I just need to install WP and design my new site.

I pay Dreamhost $10/month (hosted an unlrelated site there from 2004 to 2018) and WordPress is free.

...yeah but I still sort of need ot be an administrator to manage and get people to find it.  Not into that job at all.

Just would like somewhere to post my work for critique as well as a little PR for my stories and RPG work on a site that doesn't also have a known rep for works of more "dubious" nature like DA has.

Ah.  You want the fun and convenience of maintaining the front end while someone else deals with the grunt work of maintaining the back end.  That's understandable.  I was on DA for 5 years for the same reason.  I deactivated my account last month when Eclipse went live.

I would really rather not build my own site but it's the only logical solution left for me.

Why not create a professional page on Facebook? Or maybe Patreon? You could even make a little money there...

...ugh with the rubbish I see on FB being posted daily, no way.  I am only on FB because one of my RPG groups and a couple social concerns I am involved with use it for a message board.  Sadly, for the social concerns, there apparently is no moderation on FB at all. and both trolls as well as spammers tend to have a field day.

At least here we have some of the best mods I have seen on any forum.  I just wish our gallery setup was better.

Patreon is probably a good choice for @Nyghtfall. Then your more adult stuff could be behind a paywall.

Something like wix.com makes it easy enough to build your own site and add galleries (and it's free unless you want to 'upgrade') - I use it for my eportfolio for my teaching career but it can be used for anything (possibly excluding certain NSFW stuff - sorry Nyghtfall). Thinking of adding another site for my art and 3D-models promotion.

The only problem with something like that is gearing traffic towards it as you'd have to do all the work to advertise your site.

Otherwise, a FB page (I use that) / Patreon as Wonderland suggested or instagram maybe.

Good thought but I'm not interested in selling my work, I just want to maintain an online presence where people who aren't members of my board can see my work.

...one of the other reasons why I'm also not onto FB (besides all the spamming and trolling that goes on, I really also don't want ot become a "mod") is it really isn't designed well for creating a gallery like DA or other art oriented display sites.  Really don't like "slideshows" which seems to be the only option it has other than posting separate images inline.

If DA had some way to totally segregate SFW and NSFW galleries (like needing to be a Core member to access and post mature content), I'd be for that.  "Faveing" would also have to be changed to some form of symbol, such as a "Thumbs up" icon, that appears in the parent gallery rather than downloading the work into a collection.  this way it would eliminate the issue with SFW images ending up in NSFW collections.

After tumblr had its hissy-fit, I ended up creating my own site on wordpress.  It's very basic website, but I don't have time to make it pretty.  When I add a new image to both my site and DA (I still use it), I'll also upload a copy to twitter and encourage people to go to my site.  So far, twitter seems a good way to advertise.

PIXIV? it has horrible interface and uiux though, but it's basically Japanese DA in sense of popularity and might be more flexible in some ways

Is there much to maintain with Wordpress, once it's been set up as you want it?

Usually not so much, though if you depend on plug-ins that break with WP updates, maybe so.

Not in my experience.  I ran a website with it that spotlighted death scenes in movies and TV shows for 4 years before I lost interest in the site and closed it last year.

I didn't even have to install WP.  Dreamhost offers a list of free apps that can be installed with one click and WP is one of them.  Select your domain and they e-mail you when it's ready a few minutes later.  Then, just set a password for your admin account, log in, and start customizing.

Favorites aren't just a way to show that you like an image, which I believe will be a separate option with Eclipse, but a way for the person that liked an image to share the sort of thing they like, as well as a way to find and keep track of, related images and other content by a particular individual. I also don't think requiring Core membership is going to help do anything but eliminate NSFW images, because people aren't likely to pay to post or view such content.

Last year, DA decided it was time for an overhaul of their layout.  They branded it Eclipse.  It went live last month, though the original design is still in place - for now.

dreamwidth might be an alternative - if you manage to somehow make people attentitive to you... livejournal was once great, but it's been bastardized since it was bought years ago. dreamwidth has taken the core program but they're cool i find. but like, it's journal based so you'd have to join communities or sth to be "seen". i have a bunch of them DW but i never used them much. you can filter whatever you want to be seen by whom (friends, circle etc) and unlike a private server you don't have to do anything like maintenance...

Yeah I used to post there a lot too, though I stopped due to having not enough time and then when I came back they had done away with life memberships so I don't go back often at all.
