Someone was distracting me and I accidentally saved my default scene over a complicated scene for a client. Before I do anything else, please tell me there is a way to retrieve it ...

You can try using recuva but I wouldn’t be optimistic

Well, if you don't have a backup probably not BUT there are some other things you can try. See this article:

I do have earlier scenes saved, but not the latest changes. I was doing exactly that when I was distracted and rather than saving the newest scene as a backup, I accidentally saved over it. I was hoping in all their constant updates that at some point someone would have integrated a roaming file for most recent scenes.

    Thanks, anyway.

My first thought would have been to try Ctrl/Z, you just never know :)

  • It will not help you after the fact, but if you want to avoid it next time you might want to look at this:  https://www.daz3d.com/super-save

If you are going to try recuva you need to be doing it already

any futher actions could be overwriting your files more

They misuse the word. Overwritten means that the file data has been overwritten on the disk platters and you can't can't recover such files unless the disk is 30+ years old and you have special equipment, and even then it's a questionable affair. Deleted files can usually be recovered as normal deletion only wipes the pointers to the files on the disk, not the files themselves, but that's a different story.

I don't suppose the log will help me in any way?

"Interrupting people" (i.e. people who interrupt other people) should have a line in that song from the Gilbert & Sullivan comedy opera "The Mikado", listing the "people who would not be missed" and suggesting "punishments that fit the crime".  (like the billiard shark who is condemmed to play endless games with a twisted cue and elliptical billiard balls) devil

If you closed DS I'm afraid that's it. if it'ss till open you might be able to undo, then use Save As to save that, but that's obviously good only for a limited number of steps.

Unfortunately, control z bared no fruit, and to add to my frustrations, the power cut off for over an hour, closing Daz after the battery drained while I was hoping beyond hope to find a solution. So even if there was a way, there isn't now.

I'll go back to draft 17 and get as close as I can on memory.

    Thanks for trying, guys. frown

I've had this happen to me so many times that I started doing automatic backups of my scenes:

Sorry to hear Recuva didn’t work for you

it totally saved my ass when uninstalling Wax video editor resulted in my entire programs(86) folder starting to be wiped!

the most terrifying thing I’d experienced though I had an image backup of my drive fortunately too but recuva proved faster.
