Instead of a texture or to alter the final color of the texture so that the skin tone looks different?
It's so I can have....like the white skin of V5's skin look tan, or maybe even black, without alternating it in Gimp or Photoshop
Doing minor changes to skin tone is pretty easy with studio. Go to the surface tab and select all the skin surfaces Then select the diffuse color. Odds are high that the current color is white for the diffuse. Click on the color bar and the color checker will pop up.
First render is just basic gen2female as it loaded. 2 has the diffuse changed to 235,249,245. 3 used 240,231,208. 4 is 240,222,190. The second used the very light green to take some of the pinkness out of her skin and the other two warmed it up. The trick is using a very light hand with what ever under color you use and stay away from the red/pink end of the spectrum because the skin can get to red.
Well, I know how to change the diffuse color
What I was pretty much hoping for is IF there was like a list or even a store asset with a bunch of skin tone changes that can be used on most light-skin types
I've been finding it hard to get nice skin tones because I don't get a preview as I change the color
It is going to be trial and error on pretty much every character. Since they don't all use the same skin resource they are going to vary a fair bit as to the color your underpainting. You can always do patch checks on the skin with the spot render.
Here's a list of the old Mil3 diffuse skintones with thumnails at the bottom of the post.
One thing to note when using the diffuse to change skin tone - the palms of the hands and the sole of the feet will also get darkened. Depending on how dark you go that can lead to a more of what I tend to think of it as plastic looking as the palms/sole turn the same shade as the rest of the skin. If those parts aren't showing then it's less of an issue but it is something to be aware of.
It is something that needs to be done with a light hand. Not just because of the issues Sisca pointed out but because dramatic changes would also need changes to specularity as well. Lighter tones can handle less specularity than darker skin tones can.
One can also do a Google image search for "skin tone charts" ... with more key search words as applicable ... lots out there :-)
And a handy little utility called "ColorPix" will get the numbers so one can get the shades.
For Gen4 characters you may be able to make use of these:

There is also this product for Gen4 which has some other setting as well:
