How to create an electrocution effect in renders?

Hello. For some of my future work, I'd like to render a figure being shocked. What I imagine would be similar to a cartoon electrocution where the skeleton of the character is visible during the shock. I do have the M4/V4 skeletons, but before I set out an experiment on my own, I was wondering if anyone has already tried anything like this and would be willing to volunteer some advice to save me some time?

Thank you,
-Joe

To clarify, I am wanting to create an illuminated/translucent effect on the body that allows the skeleton to come through. I have plenty of lightening bolt/energy props.

    There's the pw Effects plugin

    http://www.daz3d.com/pweffect/

    and the pw Ghost plugin

    http://www.daz3d.com/pwghost

And then there's the whole bundle

Those skeletons come with an effect to make V4 and M4 varying degrees of transparent so that you can see the skeleton conformed underneath,

PWEffect has been my goto for most energy effects. The effects can be a little overwhelming without a lot of trial and error which is why I've asked if anyone has tried a similar effect before and can give me any hints to start with. Thanks.

You could create a geometry shell for the figure and apply pwEffect to that to get an overlay, with pwGhost or the transparency settings that come with the skeletons on the base figure.

FYI, in case anyone stumbles across this thread in the future, I was able to get the desired effect by:
    1. Applying "Subsurface Gummy & Plastic Shaders" over top of a figure's existing texture. I used this to simulate the "inner glow" effect.
    2. Render
    3. Add "V4 Skeleton" to the scene and parent it to the figure. Decrease the figure's opacity to ~85-90% so that the skeleton can be seen a little bit.
    3. Render

I then combined/blended the two images using GIMP. I've attached an example for reference.
