ISO Victorian explorer outfit for kit bashing

I'm want to put together some late-Victorian era female exporer outfits a bit like these. I found a couple of pith helmets, but I need other elements to bash together. Anybody know of some good parts?

Maybe Pioneer Airman for G3M & F might have some useful bits.

  • Those pants are perfect. Thanks!

Maybe Elverado Outfit (Victoria 4) for the gloves?

  • How well do V4 clothes work with G8F? Those might be a nice addition, but I'd worry about fit

  • There's also https://www.daz3d.com/desert-pathfinders-for-genesis-2-male-s

I have put the trousers on a G8 female with no problems at all.

  • Ooh, the gear collection on that one is nice.

Ehh... it depends on the outfit. I think there might be a converter, but I haven't tried it.

I did a quick test of it with a basic G8F model and telling it to auto-fit for a Gen 2 Female, and the blouse fit pretty well, but the other clothes had issues.

After fitting it to G8F and adding a smoothing modifier (Smoothing Iterations 3), it made it look a little better, but I still had some issues with the gloves and pants not fitting properly. See the pictures below for what I tested:

For my final test I removed the gloves (since I was playing with other morphs and they still were missing a portion above the hand), and just did a quick test pose. Blouse still seemed to do all right. So if you like the blouse, then you might be able to use that. but the pants and gloves look like they may require a bit more work to make look right.

As a side note, the add-on texture for the Elverado Outfit is currently free (as of the last time I looked, but I'm not sure how soon it switches out) in the freebies section, so if you haven't already grabbed it, you may want to pick it up just in case: https://www.daz3d.com/free-3d-models

If you don't have a converter, you could fit V4/M4 to Genesis to G2 to G3 then G8. Or at the very least fit V4/M4 to genesis then autofit to G8 using the genesis clone. Then you wouldn't have the pants issues.

This comes in handy: https://www.daz3d.com/wear-them-all-autofitting-clones-and-clothing-smoothers-for-genesis-3-female-s especially if you also have this: https://www.daz3d.com/wear-them-all-autofit-clones-expansion-for-genesis-3-male-s-and-genesis-3-female-s which allows you to fit V3/M3/V4/M4/Aiko 3/Hiro 3/Freak/Steph 3/David 3/Kids 4/G2 clothing to G3 (and that gives an easy swap to G8).

Note that you need the expansion to get all the clones, as the base Wear-Them-All only has clones for G2/V4/M4.

  • I have those,  but I didn't think about them working for V4. Doh!

How I'd love to find that hair in 3D!

Noted. I wasn't sure the best order to go in. I'll have to give that a try and see if I can get them working. :-)

Also noted. Thanks for the suggestions. :-)

Try Zarah Hair for Genesis 3 & 8 Female(s), or (a bit older) Marisandra Hair 2

  • This made me go look for double-breasted vests... pretty thin out there.

was the best one I found, but I don't know how well that will move forward generations.  Maybe you should start a thread in Product Suggestions... ;-)

These look very close to the second picture, and have the advantage of a practical heel!  BadKitteh makes the best shoes :-)

I think the pants/boots are well covered, but, yeah, that vest isn't. It's a fantastic look, too

It might be noted that this kind of outfit is way too practical for actual Victorian adventuresses. Our great grandmothers would climb mountains in big hats and long skirts:

Most vests are geared to cleavage shots when they are made for females, but I'm always surprised by how little variation is available for suits even for men.  I am sure suit jackets can be awkward to make look right, but vests are simpler, so I thought there would be more styles available.  Nope.  :-D

  • Now I feel like I'm spamming, but I'm at work and it's quiet, so...

    Is pretty close for the one harness, though still more of an underbust kind of deal, or these earlier ones;

This product includes an A3 autofit clone for G3F: https://www.daz3d.com/wear-them-all-autofit-clones-expansion-for-genesis-3-male-s-and-genesis-3-female-s

I don't have that outfit so I can't try it myself though.

The Jodhpurs from this set shrink down to regular-sized pants when you convert them to G3F using Wear Them All Generation 3. I think I've run into this with converting other pairs of jodhpurs forward using autofit and clones, so keep that in mind. Jacket works pretty well except for the undershirt textures, which started poking through the jacket so I hid them in the attached picture. (These are not to be confused with the actual shirt from the outfit, which is meant to be worn instead of the jacket). I recommend parenting the cap to the head (rather than autofitting) and parenting the belt props to the jacket's lower abdomen. No attempt was made to convert the texture for Iray in the attached image.

Character is Mousso's Raquelle, with Neftis's Fedora Bob Hair. Cap was manually reposition to work with hair.

Once installed, the clothes should be somewhere under Content/Runtime/Libraries/Figure, the materials under Content/Runtime/Libraries/Pose and the gun options and belt props under Content/Runtime/Libraries/Props.

I think maybe those load without the jodhpur morph. Click on the pants and in the parameters/actor dials there should be several "boot tuck" morphs. Boot Tuck 2 should poof out the sides.

Thank you, just found them on the original. These morphs are on the thighs rather than on the base figure, and they do not seem to carry over after autofitting. (However, if you dial Boot Tuck 2 up before autofitting the pants, they will stay puffy! So the best bet is to create and save out two autofitted versions: regular and jodhpur).

For those interested by the Deadalus outfit, there’s a mega fast grab sale on Luthbel’s items right now including this one (no idea how long that sale will last).

Which version of DS are you using?

4.8, I think. The beta reports about some of the newer versions not handling dsf files properly kept me from upgrading.

DSF files? If you mean .daz files that may be an issue, depending on vintage and other variables. You could install the beta without affecting the 4.9 release build, I'm pretty sure that there was a bug fix related to the disappearing morphs that were on a bone but not the figure. (Actually, I think if you enable Show Hidden Proeprties you should be able to find them in 4.9 - they are there, they just don't haev a visible slider.)
