Tutorial to work with elf ears

Hi :)

I'm using GF2 (mandatory since I'm using Dragon Ink texture) and My character is supposed to have elf ears. So... getting the elf ears is not a problem, and the clothes are also fine (dforce, smooth modifier, etc) however... hairs and elf (mixed with a bit of cat ears) just won't work. I've been looking at subjects talking about it, but I'd like to know if you have a textual (no video, it's hard to get what's said on video right) about elf ears problems ^^".

As far as I know, there is only two rules to remember.  First, if you conform hair, select the hair, go to Parameters>Currently Used, and dial the elf ear morph to zero...  The second rule is that you don't talk about Fight Club.

What's the problem exactly?  That the hair tries to adjust to the ear morph you used and gets distorted? 

If so you can clear the hair morph DS created automatically to adjustto the ear morphs:

• Select the hair, then go to parameters tab.
• Set the tab properties to display hidden parameters if they're not already displayed,
• Look in the "currently used" section to find the morphs used on the hair, there should be one or more hidden morphs corresponding to the ear morphs you used, that you can zero to remove the automatic adjustment.

Yeah, that was the problem. Actually, the hair I used has disappeared from the web & my hard drive (I don't even remember which website it was on, lol) and so I am using a slightly-close one. But err... it was difficult.

As for the ear morphs, I found out that I played with at least six types of shapes. That's the thing when you have a lot of dials to play with... you end up doing silly things like mixing cats and elves ears together lol.

I went thru this recently too. Funny thing was, some elf ears made the hair stick out, and some didn't. IIRC, a dialed morph using one of the standard DAZ morphs would have the hair conforming to the ear, but a custom ear morph did not. Eventually found the fix described above. I'm just starting to like Pixie hardos more and more rather than fighting with long hair, especially on old assets, LoL.

Thanks for the advice, will have to try this.  When elf ears were the big thing a few yr ago, and I bought an elf ear shape pack, I never could figure out how to get the hair from 'sticking' to the ears.  Dial up the ears, and the hair goes with it. I could never get a real answer.

@Ukyuu   if you open up the 'property heirarchy' tab you can remove the auto-generated ear morph from your chosen hair( the ears will 'poke through' the hair, but the hair wil not be deformed around them).

in the PH tab, type the name of the ear morph/s into the search box at top of tab, then open the the 'parameters' tree of the hair you are using, the ear morph/s will be easily seen, select them and right-click to open a pop-up UI, there will be an option to 'Remove Selected', click on that to remove the unwanted auto-generated morph, no distorted hair :)

Managed to do it, thank you, everyone.

It's getting closer and closer.

Unfortunately, the outfit won't be the same, since it's an A3 outfit, but I'm slowly making this character be the one my reader know.

It's easy to justify that she has a different hair cut, but not so much that she lost a full-body tattoo. Also, this air-cut shows the ears better.

Anyone have suggestions as to why my elf ear assets arent showing up in my library??
