How does the Polar Bear dForce Pillow work?

in The Commons
I have the Polar Bear dForce Pillow that simulates nicely as a pillow, but I can't figure out why or how it does it so well. I can't seem to recreate its settings on another object that I want to simulate like a pillow. The actual pillow object just collapses in on itself yet the polar bear bounces back to its default shape. There is no change in gravity settings either. It's set to 1. Does anyone know what I need to do to make another object function like the polar bear?

Did you check the Polar Bear simulation settings in the Surface pane?
Yes, the surface settings were all the same for dForce. I think I figured out how to get it to work similarly though. By adjusting the buckling settings and turning down the dynamics strength a little more, the other pillow prop bounced back into shape better.
I'm surprised that the pillow stays upright on its edge rather than falling over onto its side, however.
The polar bear pillow might have been one of the Christmas gifts we got this last winter. Making any pillow shaped object squishy seems to work OK if you lower the dynamics strength down to .90 or a little less and then increase the buckling stiffness and lower buckling ratio. Once that's been done, the objects defy gravity to some extent though. It's still fun to experiment with anyway.
It was a Xmas freebia last year.
Hi, thank you for the kind words on my polar bear pillow. This was my first dforce item.
I have my model and my floor (a plane). As you mentioned, the first thing I did was turn down the dynamic strength until it stops collapsing in on itself. I also tried making it a thicker material and using more dynamic strength. In Surfaces tab, click the triangle and from drop down select dforce surface adjuster.
The play with stiffer setting. When you get what you want, save as a material setting so you can load on your final figure.
Then, if you're working with a figure, it's a matter of using the timeline so the figure moves slowly into the pillow.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for the tips Cris. I'll be testing them soon.
