Sorry Richard. I'm lost. Is what you're saying that I shouldn't have the 'Library/Content' folder as the directory for all my files? I have about a TB of files there I've installed. Am I going to have to move them all to the 'My Libray' directory? Since all my zips extract to the content folder, I haven't had any path issues, and I don't have any other system. So when you say that the user data is meant to go to the first content directory (which for me is Library/Content) that isn't an issue? It's actually where my user data file is. How do I know what files have metadata? Is there a way to check? I've heard the term here but not sure how to find it.
DS will read the metadata (the .dsx fiels from each content directory). But yes, I am saying that ideally you should move everything out of the Content folder and directly into the My Library folder - or move everything else out of My Library and into Content, then remove My Library as a content directory. The Content folder is in the Zip for DIM, it isn't there because it needs to placed in the actual content directory you are using (originally the My Library folder).
Oh, ok. That makes sense now. So pick one and stick with it basically, but not both, and preferably the My Library rather than the Content one.
With DS4.12, had anyone have the problem that the Characters folder in the content library is not showing the Duf's, and is only showing the Character folders?
Mine show directly under the Characters folder in Genesis 8 Female with individual folders for the character's materials & such also underneath the Characters folder.
Well, it's showing up now...had a Windows update, not sure if that did anything, but working, so disregard :) My only issue so far with 4.12 is renders sometimes just stop, then I restart them and they work...had to reboot at one point. Otherwise, seems to be working fine.
I just installed 4.12 and I'm getting a LOT of crashes. Random crashes here and there, and notably when I load gen3 stuff to my gen8 figure and I'm prompted to specify "from gen3", "whole body", enter = crash every time. I have to load the item into the scene without autofitting, and then fit it the figure, which takes longer, so not that bad but still annoying. Also I got a preview bug on some models, Iray not showing or showing intermittently. Other than that I haven't found any difference from 4.11, which was better for me.
What's the easiest way to go back to 4.11 once 4.12 is installed ? Will the files I worked on using 4.12 still work with 4.11 ?
Thanx
Did you make a back up of the DS 4.11.x.x and plug-in installers? If not I'm afraid you can't roll back.
After installing 4.12 (Mac Pro 5.1, OsX 10.14.6) I got a lot of crashes. Nearly every thrid try to render caused a crush. Because I don't have the time to search the reason, I uninstalled DAZ Studio 4.12 and reinstalled 4.11.0.383. By now (knock on wood) I don't have any problems.
Thanx for your answer.
So I have to uninstall 4.12 and reinstall 4.11 ? I can't seem to find 4.11 for download on the daz3d site. Is there a link to older versions ?
Will I be able to open in the 4.11 version the work I saved using the 4.12 version ?
No, it isn't available for download - that's why I asked if you'd made a back up. You can open a Support ticket, but they may want to try to troubleshoot your issues first (and if you are having crashes with AutoFit - epsecially if you can trigger them on dmeand with certain items - that would definitely be worth reporting)
Hi folks! I know this is not really the place to ask this type of question, but I'm doing this on behalf of my nephew, who is trying to get going with DAZ Studio 4.12. He is having a problem getting .obj models to import into the program. He says that he can load items from the library but is unable to use the import feature successfully. I am hoping someone here can tell me what the problem could be.
I do not have 4.12 myself, due to my machine being a low powered one. His is a gaming PC with the NVidea graghics system, so he should not be having those problems, right?
I await your reply.
Normally you pull down File - Import an obj into your scene, you can also drag and drop an obj into the scene to, but not directly from a zip file, unzip first.
Some times the obj will import at a very small scale and also sometimes with the diffuse or base colour set to white - difficult to see on a white background
Richard, you mentioned above about installing 4.12. Also you said "Did you make a back up of the DS 4.11.x.x and plug-in installers?" How do you back up an earlier version and the plug-in installers? I'm currently using 4.1.0.123 (and thankfully still have my installer). I've already saved out my layouts and styles. How do I know what plugins I have for DS (other than LAMH)? And that installer should be on DIM, right?
My big question is how to back up an earlier version (4.10) since I never upgraded to 4.11? I don't want to have to re-do everything from scratch when I install 4.12. Also, at this point, should I install the 4.12 general release since that should be the more stable one, or the beta version? I usually steer clear of betas, but I really don't know here.
You need the zips from the Downloads folder (assuming you didn't have DIM delete them) for the main application and the Daz plug-ins (GoZ, Photoshop Bridge, Alembic, Dynamic Clothing Control, Measure Metrics, Decimator, Mimic Live are the ones I can think of) that get updated with each release. Most PA plug-ins are not affected, and you don't need to worry if they don't show up in the Updated Products list in the Ready to Download tab in DIM. If you keep the old zips you can put the old versions in the downloads folder, take DIM off line, and isntall them over the newer version.
What's the difference between a game ready driver and a studio driver? I have a 1070 ti and I don't play games at all. Just use DS for daz content and rendering. Will a GRD be more beneficial? I have 32GB of ram and that is the max my computer will take.
Studio drivrs are gnerally older, but have been more extensively bug-fixed. Game drivers ar released more frequently, but may still have bugs that affect stability. Unless you need a change/fix from a game driver for soemthing you run/play I would suggest sticking to the studio drivers.
sapat, my graphics card is Geforce 2060 RTX 6GB (other system parameters is: Intel Core i3-4330, 16GB RAM, Windows 7(64).
Render time in DS 4.10 for some characters in various poses with clothes had taken 31m. 40sec, and in DS 4.12 - 3m. 50sec!!!
Do you see these numbers? While you're rendering a single frame, i'll make a whole animation of 8 frames! And even if you have RTX CARD with newer drivers!
Stop writing! Run faster into the store and buy a shovel and a RTX graphics card! Bury GTX 1070 Ti 8GB and DS 4.10 with a shovel, and set up RTX in your computer
and you'll see that it is a revolution. Many thanks to developers from Daz studio and Nvidia for this happiness! For many years, the use of this program did not make sense due to slow rendering.
This is a revolution!
Thanks Richard. I'll update to the studio driver then.,
In my dreams. Hubby would flip out. He's still dogging me cuz I have 4 external drives and need another one now. Wish I could get a new card but no money, and end of year tax time coming.
4.10 was to old to use your GPU, so it's not surprising that 4.12 has lower render times.
Have been using 4.12 for a few days without issues, but suddenly it won't use my GPU anymore. I'm using the latest nVidia driver, which worked fine until this afternoon. Tried reinstalling Daz3D, no change, it will immediately switch to CPU even when there is nothing in the scene. Here is what the log has to say:
Try rebooting.
That was the first thing I tried. No change.
Edit: I completely uninstalled, deleted every folder I could find and cleaned the registry. After reinstalling it worked again. I restarted DAZ several times in the span of 2 hours, every time it would use my GPU and just now, without changing anything on my system or in DAZ, it's back to the same error and whatever I do, it won't use my GPU anymore.
fiezekoeing, what version of driver for GeForce RTX 2080 Ti are you using? The last version is 440.97. Try to install it. If allready installed - reinstall it. (And reboot system ofcourse). And how your graphics card working in other 3d applications? 3d games?
I noticed that when copying the surface setting from a G3F to G8F character that the Thin Walled (on/off) setting did not transfer. Took me forever to figure out why the color was a little off. Maybe a bug...?
Your not alone...If I render back to back to back a bunch of times, my GPU stops as well...but for me it just quits rendering, like the first pass kills it, and the render is done. Reboot typically works for me. It is aggravating, so I run the 4.11 final beta a lot. (my card does not get much benefit from 4.12)
If I remember correctly, windows blocks an application from using the driver when this application generates a number of errors in time. This already happened with some daz studio beta, may be 4.10. I don't know it this may be the issue.
As for me I'm using 4.12.0.86 and rendering seems to work fine on my system so far.
That was the driver I was using, just uninstalled it with DDU and reinstalled... still the same problem unfortunately. But thanks for the tip! The card is working fine everywhere else, I tried some graphics heavy games and they all work normal.
Do you happen to know if there was a solution the user could try back then? Or would I have to wait for an updated DS? I contacted support yesterday but haven't heard back from them yet, guess I'll be patient as I am really out of ideas, besides reinstalling windows completely which I don't have time for at the moment.
I'm afraid not. But I'd recommend using the latest studio driver that's 431.86. Game drivers work fine in games but may have issues with advanced features used in 3d apps.
Ok, I think I figured it out.... Whenever I deleted the DAZ folder in the registry (Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\DAZ\Studio4) it would work until I changed the render settings to the ones I use normally. After some tries it seems to be, whenever I start up DAZ with the Auto Headlight option set to "When no scene lights" my GPU works fine, even after I change it to "Never". But for the very next DAZ startup the GPU fails unless I set that option back to "When no scene lights". No idea what would cause this, like I said, I used DAZ for months and 4.12 for a few days without issues and that setting is one of the first I always set to "Never". Well atleast I can work now, would still be cool if someone had any idea what could be the issue here.
