Quadro M6000

How are the old Quadro M6000 cards holding up these days to iRay? Is anyone using them? How future proof would they be if bought today?

No M6000, but I still use some M5000s (dual and quad config).

I decided to go with the Quadro series mainly for CAD/CAE stuff (my business),
but I use them with DS and Iray too.

I bought them 3 years ago and I'm still happy with the performance. Nevertheless,
if asked today, I personally would buy Pascal or newer.

I don't have much to compare with, but the 2 M5000 are about 30% faster than my
nephew's GTX1080 (slightly overclocked) and the 4 M5000 are more than twice as fast.

That's OK, because I have these cards for another reason than DS. Comparing costs
and speed, there is no good reason to buy any older Quadro. Except you really need
    M6000's 24GB video RAM.

Nvidia Quadro drivers still include much older Kepler cards, therefor I expect that Maxwell
cards will receive driver updates for some years (~ 3-5).

  • Yeah the 24GB of memory on the M6000 looks pretty good to me. 3000+ Cuda cores is ok I guess, but it would be nice to not have to spend time subdividing big scenes.
