Renderings are not saved

Hello to all. Can anyone explain to me why the renderings are often not saved? Even tonight I launched a rendering that lasted 12 hours. I gave the name and saved. In the document folder> library rendering there was nothing.

Does it happen to any of you?

Thank you

  • Check your Render Settings for Destination. It remembers the last folder used ;-)

Windows 10? Make sure the DAZ Studio application has write access to the target directory.

I have never had that happen. Sometimes the "Documents" library is actually a conglomeration of multiple physical locations. If that is your case, is the file perhaps in a different documents folder?

  • I looked for. Also by the name of the saved file. There is not. But this problem doesn't always happen, only sometimes and I don't understand why.

Check your Render Library's base path or output directory (right-click on the Render Library tab -> Render Directory Manager). Render a simple or empty scene and save the image. Confirm if the image gets saved in the folder. If not, check if DAZ Studio is allowed to write to said directory. Since the default Render Library (C:\Users\user name\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\Render Library) is located/created inside the system-protected Documents folder, Windows 10 might be blocking DAZ Studio.

Windows -> Settings -> Update & Security -> Windows Security -> Virus & threat protection -> Ransomware protection

You can either disable the protection or manually add the DAZ Studio executables as safe applications.

If you're not comfortable messing with the Windows settings, just save your renders in a user-created directory like C:\DAZImages or something.

Is it possible that your Windows updated over night?

  • It seems everything is correct in my settings and in the path. The problem is that sometimes it happens sometimes not.

When a render is finished or you cancel it, DS creates a copy of the render named "r.png" in this folder:

    (C):\Users\[user name]\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\Studio4\temp\render

Path may vary depending on which version you're using, official release or a public beta.  See attached screenshot.

It is this file that is copied to your render library when you save it.  It will remain in the temp\render folder also after it's been saved, or even if you close the render window before saving it.  So if you can't find it in your render library, look for it here.  If it's not there, something is wrong somewhere.

Note that this file will be deleted:

    1. as soon as you start a new render (a new "r.png" will then be created when that render is finished or canceled).  A copy of your all your renders during that session will however remain in the "RenderAlbumTemp" folder below the "render" folder, so you can still find it there.
    2. if you close DS (AFAIR it used used to be when you started DS, where it would delete everything in that folder, but it looks like 4.11 and probably later versions now clears the "render" folder as well as the "RenderAlbumTemp" folder when you close the program).

    EDIT: added additional info

Or...before you leave the render or do anything else to Studio go to the File menu at the top of Studio and go to Save Last Render (not the Save Last Draw).
