Alpha Map Doubles image - Creating Prop Blur

Trying to creat a prop blur for a single blade propeller. Using alpha map in Cutout Opacity. The result is doubled. (See images.) Alpha - Base Color - Render. Any ideas appreciated!

Did you use a primitive plane or something with actual thickness? Not sure but maybe a tiling or UV issue? (Not using IRay, so guessing).

Tip: You could use the 3Delight built in motion blur to create the opacity map, using the original propeller.

3DL render, no postwork, no blur prop:

  • Thanks for your input & ideas. I have tried most all filters in FS & AE, etc. My focus here is to why the resulting blur using the alpha produces 4 blade rather than 2 which is the desired result. I am using a primitive disc with little thicknes. Horizontal. & vertical tiling are set to 2 which centers the diffuse image (1200x1200) perfectly. I have tried to uncover settings in Daz to correct the mirroring but have found non to apply. I would expect the alpha to show only the area that is white & block all areas that are black. Why does it place another image at opposite angle? Thanks again. All ideas appreciated!

I'm guessing again, but looks like your maps are wrapped around the disc using cube mapping or similar. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cube_mapping

You would have to edit the prop or the maps to make things work properly. Or simply use a primitive plane with a 1x1 tiling?

  • If you're using a Daz studio cylinder primitive with a low height for the disk that would be why its duplicating if you set tiling to 2

I've attached the UV for the daz cylinder, perhaps use the layered image editor to move your transparency map into the top left corner and mirror it for the top right
