Are there vector versions of the character UV maps available?
Comments
_ kind of a good question _
It kind of looks like Photoshop creates one when you import a 3D model and open the map, but it is not editable and seems to be just a guide for the layer on top (where you can paint). I tried looking through the temp files but oh boy there are a lot!
What do you mean by editable? If you want to change the mapping that requires a modeller with mapping tools (e.g. Hexagon or Blender) or a dedicated UV Editor (e.g. UV Layout).
Bad wording. I mean I can see it but it's not a layer - it's like under the layer. When you paint on the layer, it paints on the 3D figure and visa versa. I don't want to edit the map, I just get a vector UV as a drawing guide (plus it looks nicer since it scales without distortion).
You'd have to trace a raster version of it.
modo will export UV maps as SVG, but that is a touch on the pricey side. I don't know if Blender will do it (actually, this says it will - but I'm not certain it's as paths https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/2.81/addons/import_export/io_mesh_uv_layout.html ).
As Sevrin suggests, a bitmap template file can be converted to a vector graphic for editing, but then it would need to be re-converted to a raster/bitmap format for use as a UV map. Most programs capable of working with vector graphics should be capable of doing the conversion - i.e. Illustrator, CORELDraw, Inkscape, etc. Of course, care must be taken to preserve the relative positions of the image elements or the UV mapping will be destroyed.
Thanks everyone for the resposes. This is a great community! I'm tracing one but I haven't mastered the Photoshop Pen tool yet. Thought I would check if one existed.
I was more thinking of using Live Trace (I think it's called) in Illustrator. I can't imagine doing that by hand.
I quickly found that out :)
_ And Inkscape , then , can it ??
