Surprise with original Aiko

I've been playing around with some of my old content and installed the first Aiko today, just to remind myself of how good/horrible it was and how using it differs from more modern figures (and because I needed a fairly low-weight cartoonish figure). I was a little surprised to find the complete .cr2 for the original Stephanie included with it. I don't remember it being included when I last used it about twelve years ago.

Surprise bonus or is it just my memory failing me?

I do know that Aiko was based on the original Stephanie figure. I can't for the life of me tho remember if Stephanie was included with Aiko or not. LOL I seem to remember purchasing them separately, but that was 20 years ago...hehe. Memory fails me too ;).

First there was Stephanie (531, 2002-01-02, ref. Old Artzone Wiki), then there was Aiko for Stephanie (674, 2002-05-30, new wiki), then Aiko (Anime/Manga Character) (673, 2002-05-31, new wiki) that included Stephanie.

And let's not forget that Stephanie herself was originally a female morph of Michael.

My copy has Stephanie 1 added as wellI.  IRC, Stephanie 1 was pulled from the store before the original Aiko was, so they probably rebundled the base Steph in with Aiko 1 to make the product functional for newer customers.

What I remember was that Aiko for Stephanie requiring Stephanie for its geometry and the later Aiko (Anime/Manga Character) was a re-release as a standalone with both the .cr2 and .obj. I do not remember the product including the complete Stephanie as a separate .cr2.

I got Aiko 1/2 but haven’t used her much.  Mainly because of clothing issues either not enough or need to add Aiko morph to them.

Pretty much what I failed to remember and am noticing now.

The first standalone one, Aiko (Anime/Manga Character) - product code 673, not Aiko for Stephanie. I had forgotten that she came as an addon for the original Stephanie originally when I wrote the first post.

The notebook I'm currently using is really not capable of much (nor am I), so don't expect anything fancy. Both characters are Aiko 1, one default, the other with the male morph. The cyborg and flight suit textures are included with the figure.

it appears Aiko 1 and 2 are no longer in the catalog? I only see products with 3 and newer.

Wow, a blast from the past. I haven't loaded a figure older than genesis 2 in years. I used to love Aiko 3 back in the day.

This is my recollection and may be wrong:

Aiko was only a head morph so all of S1 clothes would fit

S1 and V2 had very similar shapes (I don't mean the mesh) except for the chest/breast so V2 clothes would also fit below the waist.

I converted the Aiko 3 shape from G1 to G8; worked well (IMO). I just went looking for a texture in the same vein as the A3 as it was real - not stylised at all as far as I could tell.

I don't like working with A3 or V4 eras, and never have. I am, however, happy to convert them (textures and/or shapes) to G8. I admire all those that manage to get nice renders of said eras.

Something to be aware of if you own both Aiko(anime) and Stephanie, the Stephanie CR2 that comes with Aiko is from 2002, the one that comes with Stephanie is from 2004 and has had small changes made to the ERC code.

If you install with DIM/Central/Connect then you get the older version that comes with Aiko, rather than the "updated" version.

From a quick glance, the only change seems to be the character number changed from 7 to 1. Which, if I remember correctly, was to fix issues with clothes fitting to the wrong figure if you had multiple of the same base figure in a scene in Poser and never actually affected D|S.

Over the years I've had to edit a couple of thousand CR2 to fix morph ERC, and those numbers are one of the main reasons for a slider doing nothing in DS.

Is there Aiko 1 morph for Aiko 3?

  • KeryaKerya Posts: 10,943

The download for Stephanie includes a Stephanie LE, but no textures, contrary to the "Aiko (Anime/Manga Character)".

The cr2 from the Stephanie download is from 09.06.2004, the one from the Aiko download is from 02.04.2002.

As I am curious, I used Notepad++ with the compare plugin to find the differences. Almost all are changing the actor number from 7 to 1.

    The others are

    targetGeom BrowUpR to targetGeom RBrowUp
    name BrowUpR to name RBrowUp

    targetGeom BrowUpL to targetGeom LBrowUp
    name BrowUpL to name LBrowUp

targetGeom EyeBlinkR to  targetGeom Blink Right
name EyeBlinkR to  name Blink Right

targetGeom EyeBlinkL to targetGeom Blink Left
name EyeBlinkL to name Blink Left

Same here....lol. I still have them all tho. I do use Grim once in awhile. He's still pretty spooky looking if you don't look too hard at his bends (I try to keep him in the background...lol).
