The other thing I noticed, is that Victoria 8 is 6 feet tall, and Victoria 8.1 is 5 feet 8 inches tall, according to their respective shop page data.  I was under the impression that they would have the same body dimensions, unless that is for the base G8F and G8.1F figures. -David

With those camera angles and focal length, they both look kind of ugly.

They look like they've been playing a bit too much with the Instafilters - lol

I kind of like it, it works as a sort of stress test, the detail difference is still quite favourable for Vicky 8.1.

Not sure if I will be going for Vicky 8.1, want to see what other vendors come up with!

Mooncraft and I were discussing this on the Daz Slackers discord - it seems that there's a morph with a bad default value, so the shapes are off here. The normal tricks to ID the morph didn't work, but hopefully it can be solved for a better comparison.

  • Why does Victoria 8.1 look so much darker in these side by side shots? Is it something to do with the lighting?

  • As stated on the page of the screenshots (in two places), it seems there is something going wrong with my morphs and some morphs were being applied to the models that should have not been. The shapes are off, ignore the shapes. Look at the details of things like the eye rims, lips, etc. I am still troubleshooting what is going on to make my models look so off.

Comparison is difficult when not using the same skin shaders.

Looks like you might have "The Zilpha Morph Issue" - there have been work arounds posted and the quickest way to see what is polluting your G8F base is to select Victoria 8.1 in the Scene Tab, then in the Shaping Tab click on "Currently Used" and you will see what is active besides Vickie 8.1.  Simply zero those sliders out and you should have your intended character once again.  It is a pain, but Zilpha is not the only character that can do this.  Just zero out and you can get back to it.

That's not what they look like. It looks like you have another character morph that's corrupting your base G8F (a character morph that autoloads with any G8F characters).

This is what they actually look like:

So was the 8.0 one way too bright or is the 8.1 one way too dim?

AGAIN, it says in -2- spots on the article that there seem to be hidden morphs on my models causing issues. I'm trying to resolve this. It was only later after I made this that the issue was discovered.

I was only responding to the OP (not the offsite article), which doesn't mention that the morphs aren't accurate only that it's "Side by side comparison renders of default Victoria 8.1 HD versus Victoria 8 HD" and an image posted that isn't accurate to what either character looks like. Perhaps an edit to the OP would help so that it's not misleading on what the new Victoria 8.1 figure actually looks like. :)

Thank goodness you clarified that! I was concerned that she looked so drastic. I think the whole original image should be removed or replaced with a corrected image. It is, as you say, NOT the default character.

Did you use the same render subd levels for both HD characters or their defaults?

  • OP : your duf files for basic G8 have been altered obviously. Any morph you've been loading since this happened might have looked like E.T

Uninstall everything related to Genesis 8 Basic using DIM.

And reintstall everything (not DAZ or else, just the G8 Basic)

The linked article shows render settings set to different render subd levels. I would assume they were set the same for the comparison renders or otherwise it wouldn't be a fair comparison.

UPDATE: After this article was made it was noticed that there are unknown morphs being automatically applied to my models. I am working to resolve this issue.

So what morphs or product were automatically being applied to your model? I'd like to learn how to fix this problem if I encounter it in the future.

Sometimes a product is delivered that always keeps it morph 100% (applied) , so when you dial in a character, you get that morph with it automatically. The way to fix it is in parameters, search for the offending dial, edit the settings (gear icon) and set the default value to 0%, if I remember correctly.

  • I am working to debug this still. I have checked for hidden morphs and more. This happened only recently, I suspect with 4.14 or 4.15. Its hit several of my characters. I am checking hidden properties and the 'currently used' tab.

I will refresh this once I get it fixed. Still, it's being a serious thorn in my side.

I found the issue, there was a 3rd party asset installed that had odd morph settings that decided to apply to my g8 female types.

I will work in redoing the renders :)

Here is the 8.1 HD head alongside the 8 HD.

I think Vicky 8.1 is a vast improvement over Vicky 8. Not even talking about the new skin shader, just that Vicky 8 always looked off.

I disagree. Vicky 8.1's nose and mouth look strange to me, like slightly swollen. Vicky 8 looks more normal there.

I'm basing this off of Diva's render and Mooncraft's corrected render.

I agree.  A lot of the characters based on V8 are nice, but not Vicky on her own.  Vicky 8.1 looks much more of this time.

  • I am working my way through all the renders and getting the comparison post updated render by render right now.
