    I haven't even started working with canvases

  • Alias52Alias52 Posts: 296

    I can highly recommend the video tutorials by Daz Ann on page one of the below contest. I don't always use canvases (as you have to do a chunk of work in post,) but you can run them alongside your main render and it allows you to pick elements to effectively highlight. Plus it allows tweaking of light exposure and colur hues etc, to sometimes give more depth to some renders.

    From what I see should be unterstandable. I've work with PhotoShop on with DOF and EXR. I understand layers in Photoshop. I've worked with dng files which is like an exr. I'll bite, just let me git me learning glasses.

    INTERMEDIATE CHALLENGE.

    OK, open render. Someone else try and fit a G8Male into a Storm Fighter Jet.

    I think G8M fits the Stormfell fighter jet cockpit very well if you reduce his scale by about 50%.

    This scene has two G8.1M Michael figures. Both wear the Carlos Miguel skin texture.

    The background is the Dreamlight Club HDRI Alien Corridors HDRI Map 1 and its associated light rig. (Note: the blue lights in this HDRI washout the Michael 8 and 8.1 default skin textures completely.)

    The Pilot wears the complete Battle Pilot Outfit using the Red Alert Division colors (tan base). The helmet is resting between his legs and has been repainted pearl white, has a clear visor, and galvanized steel hose fittings. He also wears the MRL Buzz Cut hair. The pose is a basic seated pose that has been heavily modified to fit the cockpit.

    The technician wears the Battle Pilot Outfit minus basic fight suit using the Communications Division colors (green base). He wears the Hair Set head hair, moustache, and forearm hair. The pose is a basic standing pose that I modified extensively.

    And, of course, the Stormfell fighter jet in gray with some minor retexturing in the cockpit, and the cockpit canopy moved out of the scene.

    Composed and rendered in DAZ Studio 4.14 Pro using the IRAY render engine.

    I went scale the jet not the pilot. Did not think of your way.

     Maybe, though if I do, I'll probably do more of an overall scaling instead. Will depend on how it looks on the y axis alone.

    Having recently discovered volumetric flames, everything is on fire at the moment. I have another scene in mind (also using fire, obviously!) that I may get around to in a few days.

    Recently got the explosions too, but haven't used them yet.

    I was thinking that also but it's the artist in you to be satisfied with the project.

    HI Everyone!
    Thanks for the comments and concerns! I got through the test procedure fine and now get to go through the real one sometime in the next few weeks lol
    Now on to the notes for everyone!!

    @jkp
     Very sassy! I like the attitude the girls have you can tell they're having fun lol

    @perlk
     OO yea that green glow is really nice! Great find on the tutorial too I have it bookmarked now thanks!

    @AgitatedRiot
     I really like the darker interior render!
     OMG don't blow it up!! That is NOT the kind of light it up we wanted roflmao
     I like the new render the lighting for the interior is balanced nicely but what are those bright red areas?
     Oo the Commander's Girl looks good I really like how the light from the fire outside is interacting with her skin!! She just needs a little more light from the panels around her now lol

    @zygodac
     Ooo that's really nice I like the mood you've going on and the total obliviousness of the couple walking right past her! The uplighting on the statue is perfect for drawing the eye towards her too!

    @ioonrxoon
     Great job I really like the fact that you have a rat in the foreground lol I agree that the fog needs to be raised a tad more unless you are going for the dry ice type fog? Also the expression on the Vamp facing us isn't looking angry is this is friendly bout?

    @sueya
     Nice! I like how you have the pink light traveling over the light and the dancer. The specular and bump on the wall and floor are looking really good as well!

    @dmcvocation
     I like the one with the forest backdrop it feels like they are in a swamp and you can really feel the movement in the scene!

    @vamok
     King Over the Mountain - Awesome!! So fun!
     I really like the darker version (D) of the Freight Escort iwth the dual ships in the back, woot green is back!
     Ooo the second hull is fantabulous!!!

    @Shinji Ikari 9th
     I like the addition of the gargoyle but he looks like he's behind the brazier by the pillar instead of over the brazier as if he just knocked it over. If he's moved closer to it and slightly in front of it then you'll get the additional lighting behind him to make him stand out a little more as well. The fire effect kind of overpowers the floor there and is oversized for the size of the brazier maybe drop the scale by around 50%?

    @Alias52
     Great changes!! I like the addition of the person on the other side of the table blatantly ignoring what's going on in front of them lmao
     -The girl's blade is still really hidden maybe a slight rotation so it catches a little more of the firelight?
     -The girls in the front also look like they have the same expression on their faces or a really similar one.
     -You might want to simulate the Drago hair that should get rid of the stiff hair syndrome for the back of it that's standing above his shoulders.

    @Shack
     Oh now that's cool! I really like how the figures look like they are actually talking to each other!

    @davidjones8418
     The fire looks great! I think the overall lighting is a tad bright and the fire would stand out more if was darkened a little. It would also add some more drama to the scene ;) Love the molotov flying towards the shield roflmao

    I took a different approach with the fog this time; the low angle made any attempts at messing with transparency pointless, so I lowered the plane and added fog layers instead. Also added a bit of frown and fixed the left character's position (she was facing forward - when I started the characters were very close together, then I moved them apart and only adjusted the position on the right).

    I'll play with the lighting. Does feel more like a night scene. Much appreciated.

    Lol re the molotov, because that is something I had difficulty with. It is meant to be flying past him and it bothered me that it could look like another one (a tiny one!) coming for the shield, but perspective is hard. Perhaps it just needs to be further away?

    @davidjones8418 You could try adding a flame and smoke trail, that would allow you to show the direction it's coming from; I was seeing what you mentioned, rather than a bottle flying past him. Some shadows would also make the scene more dramatic.

    Yes, I very much like this new fog arrangement!

    Intermediate Entry

    I had to use a different approach than I had planned for the ships. The last one I posted was a light-eating, fire-fly spawning monster. Until I get that version (e? f?) figured out, I will put this one up for your evaluation.

    You are part of this render too. Your input and advice along with ElliandraAgitatedRiot, and Alias52 have pushed me to keep tweaking on this well after I wanted to call it done. So thank you for the input, inspiration, and advice.

  • Hi everyone,

     I am hoping you might be able to help me. When I try to add a picture to this comment area I get this message:  "Because of your browser security settings the editor is not able to access your clipboard data directly" and then I am offered a clipboard but it won't accept a picture, only text.

    What am I doing wrong?

    Thanks

    To attach a picture, use the "Attach a file" underlined below. Then you can select the file on your computer and it attaches underneath. To get it into the main body there are a couple of workrounds after that. The one I use is that I right click on the uploaded image and select open link in new tab. Your picture then opens. I then go to the address bar at the top and delete the word /thumbnail from the address. I copy the address that is left and come back to the comment. Select add image and then paste the address into the URL. Then you can choose the size of the picture that is added. I go for around 800 wide I think.

    I know there is at least one other way and someone can probably let you know that one, but that method works for me. (Occasionally, I link to a forum picture which I have opened in another tab and copied the address for the same effect)

    The body of the ships looks so much better - it is fantastic the difference that it has made!
