Do you use DAZ in game development pipeline for anything else than VN?

Maybe you do sprites for 2,5D shooters like Doom? Or maybe for isometric pre-render RPG? Or something even less expected (tabletop simulations huh)? Tell!

  • Steam has plenty of interactive dating sims that are based on Daz products largely from indie developers. Though I have entertained the thought, but couldn't motivate myself into any serious commitment based partly upon my perceptions of the ambiguities in the EULA. (I have even heard that the licensing restricts one from releasing Daz content as DLCs to address "loopholes")

Also their directions towards licensing content for interactive purposes have fluctuated enough times in the past to dissuade me further. As far as I know, it all started with the perpetual game developer license, then through Morph3D/MCS, Tafi, Unity and EpicGames marketplace and more recently their initiative towards bulk licensing for enterprises. I think the indie game sector is saturated with Daz character steretypes and I haven't seen any serious examples (outside the few dating sims) that would inspire me to confidently use Daz characters in a serious project.

I'd say this still covered with "VN" mention. I'm interested to know more exotic uses rather than obvious ones :D

And yes, you are legally fine using still renders / video. While all that "interactive license" for actual 3d models being used is weird and not sure if really worth it.

Hence i mentioned good old isometric rpgs :D love pre-render late 90s era.

Also it could be illustration for TCG games like Magic The Gathering. Just another idea i've just thought.

I saw a RPG game make with the RPG Maker MV engine, using Daz assets as sprites (isometric pre-rendered RPG I guess). But currently I couldn't find it because I don't remember the name. I'll update when I find it.

Updated: I gave up, couldn't find it. But I'm 100% sure it is possible to use daz3d assets and RPG Maker MV to make an isometric rpg. You'll have to be clever with the parallax mapping since it is not fully supported, but overall doable.

They even sell 3d pre-rendered (or drawed) resource for the engine like the RPG Maker MV - Mythos Reawakening, so one can make similiar assets like this with Daz3d stuff.

    Best regards,

    Minh

Interesting. But i think in RPG Maker only "character portraits" are high-res, but actual visible sprites are 100px or similar. You can't make something like Dragon's Crown hd 2d. Maybe i'm wrong and limits are lifted in new versions.

We use a lot of renders in a word game that we publish on IOS and Android. Basically the images are full renders, and the player has to guess the word associated with the image.

Definitely not a VN, but I would not describe it as exotic either.
